It's funny though, the guy was shit in GP2 from what I read, and then you had people like Piquet and Grosjean that excelled in GP2 but just failed in F1. I think it's a mindset thing really. Someone like Kobayashi just raised his game and felt more at home at the top in F1 rather than in GP2. Whereas guys like Grosjean can't handle the pressure and F1 in general it seems.TC.Troy wrote:
Agreed, the kid was a whoot. Certainly gives me a better reason to watch GP2.Mekstizzle wrote:
Only thing that annoys me is that Kobayashi might not get a drive for next season. The guy showed promise and was interesting to watch. Better than all the other newcomers that's for sure.
People like Kobayashi show that you can't base everything on success in other modes of motorsport. I hope the dude gets a drive next season
I remember reading in an interview that if it all doesn't work out he'll be working at his dad's sushi restaurant, lmfao... poor bastard

The first time ever ever drove an F1 car he got within .3 seconds a lap of Button.
Providing Campos provide him with the car, he will do very well.
And Hulkenberg, I'm expecting good things from him next year!

Mercedes GP is the name of a Formula One racing team and constructor. After a twelve-year relationship with the McLaren team, Mercedes-Benz purchased a 75.1% stake in the championship-winning Brawn GP team on November 16, 2009.

I miss the Williams a lot. My favorite team, car of great champions like Prost, Piquet and Senna.
McLaren with Hamilton is a Champions graveyard, Button shouldn't make the same mistake Alonso did. Saying that, Alonso was still naturally completely able to stay with Hamilton, I don't think the same for Button. Hamilton might make him look quite bad really. He'd end up worse than Alonso did by far, he shouldn't go McLaren.

Going to McLaren will be his best choice yet. He got put into a car that had been developed for most of 2008 which gave him instant advantage while the rest caught up. Then, when everyone caught up, the so-called best car dropped in performance, not because they were going slower, but because everyone had caught up. He still hasn't led a race since Turkey. And I don't think if he stayed with Mercedes GP he would win a race in 2010.Mekstizzle wrote:

If he stayed at Mercedes GP, McLaren and others are still going to make him look bad, because people overrated him in 2009 after Brawn's huge start of the season advantage.
He won't look as bad if he goes with Mercedes GP.
I think everyone already knows he was a somewhat mediocre driver in an exceptional car in a season with dubious rules (diffusers) and in general massive rule changes that were bound to throw off some of the big boys and even things out abit.
So saying that, if he goes to Mercedes, and doesn't have a good season, it will make Mercedes look kinda lame because they wouldn't be able to follow up the success of Brawn, but it wouldn't make Button look that bad, lightning doesn't strike twice and most people probably wouldn't pin Mercedes to win anything in their first season.
But if he went to McLaren, there's no doubt he would be instantly expecting to challenge for the title again. He'd have to compete with Hamilton (who knows the team inside out, and even as a driver is quite some distance ahead of Button) and would be with a new team and failing at McLaren would be much worse for him personally than failing at Mercedes.
The guy would have much more to lose racing for McLaren then Mercedes, IMO. And the chance of him getting his arse kicked by Hamilton is probably quite high, at least Alonso just had problems off the track, on the track he was still fast with Hamilton. Button it would be the reverse, and that would actually be worse.

I might just be biased, I'm desperate to see Button fuck up next year at the hands of Hamilton
Heidfeld for 2010 champion
According to the Gaurdian it's confirmed that he's at McLaren next season

Pretty much agree, however, I dont rate him as a somewhat mediocre driver - he is without a doubt a better driver than Kovalinanen (sp?), however, anybody going to McLaren, a team built around Lewis, is going to struggle.Mekstizzle wrote:

We can only wait and see, but when Button needed those good laps this year, he put them in. Its just that they often came at the end of the race, and I think media-hype and pressure, along with slow development, hindered both his mental attitude and his car greatly in the latter stages of the season. Red Bull caught them up, and had arguably the better car, but couldnt capitalise on it.
Just remember: Button won more races than what Lewis did in his title-winning season (albeit by 1). Buttons advantage is that he is a more careful, consistent and flowing driver, whereas Lewis is more "heads-on" and as a result, can be more rough with the car and has a bit of a habit of not finishing, whether it be crashing on one of the last corners or getting a flat/gearbox failure, etc. He is a natural racer, a proper racer, but that has been his downfall on some occasions. That is, going by this season anyway.
And thats why Im a Lewis fan Im all for Button too, but I think he is going to be in Lewis's shadow, a bit like Barrichello against Schumi and, ironically, Button.
I read an article here at the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsp … 312844.stm
It says that Button is an oversensitive driver and often doesn't adapt very well to new cars or driving situations. Only when the car is perfect for him is he the best driver on the field. Makes sense.
I don't think that if Button screwed up had he raced for Mercedes that Merc would take the blame. The team has only changed in name and financial backing. Nothing more has changed. Brawn is still head of the team and the tech stuff, so that genius would remain. If the team did poorly, it would have been the team's fault, driver included.
Here's a little tidbit for ya, lads: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsp … 368107.stm
Schumacher himself is planning a return to F1! Or at least, Mercedes are going to try and recruit him.

Yeah, but the margins between the cars in the 2008 season were much less than the margins between the cars (especially at the beginning) of the 2009 season. Overall 2008 was much more competitive. When things became competitive in 2009 Button was practically nowhere to be seenSnake wrote:

Why was 2008 less competitive than 2009? I think 2009 was the most competitive F1 has been in the past few years. The teams have lost a lot of the helping technologies that were covering up the discrepancies in driving skill.
Snake is right, though - Hamilton has a much more aggressive driving style and attitude than Button. I think that comes more from experience. Schumacher (as far as I remember) was never so aggressive on the track. It was calm and poised and like a surgeon - much like Button. The problem is, and after reading that BBC article this makes sense, that Button is a much more sensitive driver.

There was an awesome article explaining how Button and his driving style could theoretically be better than Hamilton on next seasons cars (extra weight, narrow front tyres, fuel economy, plays advantage to Buttons smoother driving style)
I forgot where it was now, but if I find it i'll post it.
Also apparently a Silverstone deal is close, so hopefully there should be a British GP next season.
