Guilty verdict in the "Horror in Knoxville" murders

Some of you might remember from a few years ago the story of two innocent people who were carjacked, kidnapped, raped and murdered by these malignant organisms masquerading as humans. They were arrested, put to trial, and finally at least one of them is facing his just desserts.

My only question is how it could possibly take so long to convict just ONE of these fucks? And what's even more disturbing is that the jury took 8 hours of deliberation to reach the verdict.

The entire justice system of this country makes my stomach turn sometimes.

What's fucked up is that a white-collar criminal like Bernie Madoff got convicted and sentenced at light-speed while these rapists and murderers JUST got convicted two years after the crime was committed.

It seems these days that the worse your crime is, the longer it takes for you to be convicted. I could probably be sent to jail for shoplifting faster than I would be for killing a man in cold blood.

I'm surprised by the lack of responses. I expected more posts along the lines of "oh but maybe the murderer-rapist had a tough childhood! he shouldn't be punished harshly" and other such drivel.

Just because the murder seems gruesome does not for one minute mean that the guy the police arrested is automatically guilty.

And it still took two years? When they had DNA evidence linking him to the rape? When he even admitted that he was at least present during the murder?

ffs you have no idea what you're talking about.

The reason most murder trials take so long is because the evidence collected has to be water tight, the process has to be absolutely within the law and the case presented against the accused must be strong.

Otherwise the risk that the accused can find a loophole in their arrest warrant and be let free on a technicality or found innocent or have the case dismissed is too great.

Then you have the process of appeals.

I suppose you'd think a quick summary execution would be well and good, but not everyone charged with a crime is guilty and in a case such as this one the verdict is extremely life changing for the victims, victims family and the respective accused.

Oh christ don't get me started on appeals

I swear even when the person pleads guilty the lawyers still try and play him/her off as not deserving of their sentence

Well duh. That is their job.

Even if the accused is guilty, the usually try for a plea bargain to reduce the sentence.

Ridiculous. They deserve a special spot in hell for continuing to defend someone who is outright guilty of committing some of the most heinous acts that a human can commit.

If you and your friends were caught shop lifting the same process would apply.

Co-operate with police, inform them of what happened and you're likely to be pardoned or face a weakened sentence.

And if you are suggesting that legal representation should not be afforded to someone either accused of, or admitting guilt to a crime, you are out of your mind.

They should be afforded it. But once they've been proven guilty beyond all doubt (DNA linking them to the crime, many witnesses testifying, video evidence, being caught committing the crime) then why must it drag on and on and on? In a case like this, if the person really is guilty, they should just swiftly execute them.

edit: If we were caught shoplifting I would be damn surprised if we got the death sentence. Shoplifting and combination rape & murder are two very different things.
