This is probably in the wrong place, but I don't care.

What is your preffered config (weights, dpi ect) and what do you think is the optimum (I like sniping, so low DPI = good?)

I'm about to try my new mousey out, after 5 years of using a trackball, i finally gave in to the g5

I love my G5.   I use the max weight.  DPI at medium most of the time expt low when scoped snipper for long range or high in a tank/apc.

I agree with ^.
I also set up the thumb button for squad communications (the default B key).
It makes it easier to talk when driving or flying.

Ok, I just got my Logitech G5 delivered.

Connected up the mouse, downloaded the latest version of setpoint rather than installing the older cd version.

The sensitivity settings aren't working for me, for example.. I start up BF2 and click the dpi settings buttons and nothing happens.

The little DPI light indicator on the mouse doesn't change. And I set enable notification, yet there is no sound etc when I click the dpi buttons?!

Anyone have any advice here?

Did you set up your DPI settings in setpoint?  By default, I think it only has one setting.

The settings I set it up with. (I figured it should be noticable between 400 and 2000 dpi)

The only thing I think that could be interfering is the keyboard software I use with my Logitech G15 keyboard.

EDIT: If I change the first one it definitely changes the DPI but it won't let me switch between 1 and the other 4 dpi settings.

I've uninstalled the setpoint software...

Now, by default when the mouse lights it the second from top light (for dpi) is lit up.
If I press the + button it goes up to the top most light, however when I press the - button nothing happens.

Is this what I suspect it is?

That the - button is broken?

Can people who own the G5 please comment?

seems that the mouse is broken.

I have no problems switching back and forth between settings at all.

At the login window in windows before the setpoint software is loaded you're able to switch between the default dpi settings with the + and - buttons?

Goddamnit, this is typical. Ebuyer screwed up my order, I got a wireless mouse (MX518 i think it was), so I wait almost two weeks for the replacement and it's farking broken.

Argh!

Hey, here is a test you can run.  On the MX518, you can reprogram the + and - buttons to other functions.  You should be able to do this on the G5 as well.  Reprogram the - key to a keyboard key and see if it works in-game or in Word or something.  That should tell you whether the button is broke.

how'd you get the MX518 mixed up with a G5?

WTF are you talking about?  EvilMonkeySlayer is having a problem with his G5.  I am trying to help him out.  If you read my post, I said: "On the MX518, you can reprogram the + and - buttons to other functions.  You should be able to do this on the G5 as well."

Sorry, just a correction. It was the MX1000 I received instead of the G5 originally.

To recap:

I ordered a Logitech G5 mouse (and a Logitech G15 keyboard), when they got delivered they messed up half the order. I received a Logitech MX1000 instead of the G5 which I ordered.
I sent back the MX1000, finally got the G5 delivered and the damn lower dpi button "-" is broken.

Where are you burning_monkey?!

I run the lightest weight (I'd even go lighter if I could), like 0.3 sensitivity ingame, and 900 DPI as my defualt. I have the rest of the DPIs pretty evenly spread out so that I can adjust if I want, but usally I'll only go slightly lower for long range sniping.

hello,

I run the lightest weight.

ingame sensitivity:
infantry 0,70
vehicle 2,10
jets+choppers without mouse
boat 2,10

setpoint
400 --> i set it to this for playing bf2
800
1000
1500
2000

but i can't set the other buttons like the thumb button for any action in the game
if i push the button at the keyboard settings in bf2 nothing happens, i don't know why.

Sorry dude, I have been busy as all hell at home.  Just plain forgot.  I will write myself a note and test out my mouse later tonight when I get home.

EDIT: worked fine when at the login screen

I FINALLY got the new replacement G5 today after I sent back the faulty G5. This one works fine, including the reduce DPI button.

Hurrah!

So, it was a broken/faulty button.
