980-Pound Man Needs 'Life-Saving' Operation

Doctors blame a British man's 20,000-calorie a day diet for causing him to balloon up to a whopping 980-pounds and leaving him in need of a life-saving operation.

Paul Mason, 48, needs a nearly $33,000 life-saving operation after a compulsive eating disorder left him "super-obese."

Mason scoffs three family-sized takeout meals a night and wolfs down roasts like snacks.

He has spent much of the past eight years in bed at his home in Ipswich in Suffolk, England.

His health care costs taxpayers an estimated $165,000 a year.

And now he needs drastic stomach surgery to curb his eating and keep him alive, which the country's National Health Services will have to foot the bill for.

Mason will travel in a 5-ton ambulance specially built for obese people at a cost of $148,000 to get the surgery.

Mason's girth may distinguish him as the world's fattest man. The previous world's fattest man, Manuel Uribe, once weighed an unbelievable 1,230 pounds, but has lost more than 500 pounds after following a specially designed, low-carb diet.

"This man is very ill and this is life-saving surgery," a National Health Services Suffolk spokesman said of Mason. "The nature of his illness is psychological and the NHS has a duty to help him. He is in a very fragile state and needs help. We are exploring all options for transporting him from his home to hospital but we have now ruled out an airlift."

"The most important aspect of transporting him is preserving his dignity and looking after his safety. We have not had anything like this before," the spokesoman added.

Susie Squire, of the Taxpayers' Alliance, said: "While it is important to get this man the medical attention he needs, cost-effective methods must be used."

I think right wingers provides a negative net benefit to society, so why don't we just execute them? I don't see someone eating themselves to 980 pounds without a legitimate psychological disorder. Though if he is some fat fuck who ate too much then I'd be more inclined to let nature take its course.

Obviously the man is on a food stamp program + assited living, so why not curb the money he can spend on food?

Either that or he's well off with some form of money, which then he's actually paying for it by the purchase of food.

We don't get to pick and choose which parts of society to support and which to cast away. You have to take the bad with the good. Sure there will be people that take advantage of that social contract at all levels of government/society; that's just the nature of the human condition.

That's all I want to know, I"m skinny 6'0' between 165-175 lbs and I have a hard time maintaining food cost(I eat out way too much). But the amount of money he must be spending where the fuck is it coming from?

You're operating under the assumption that all life is valuable. I disagree. I think the value of ones life is earned over time and is based on the decisions that we make. It's not a zero-sum equation by any means. If you live in a socialist society like England has become then the punishments for 'negative' behavior like this man has shown must be equal to the cost he has on society as a whole. His medical care alone would provide wages for four lower middle class people to live on for a year.

All of you who live within the dream of a socialist utopia don't seem to get that the more anchors you have within your society the poorer you will all become. But hey, I guess you'll all be equally poor.
