Don't bother with credit cards.
Not right now.
Not in this market.

Establish your credit record by paying bills on time, making your car payments on time, making student loan payments on time, and keeping a clean banking record (no overdrafts, etc).

Use a debit card with a credit company logo on it.
Processes like a credit card, but comes out of your checking.

Keep $500 or $1000 as your self-imposed account balance "zero limit" that you don't ever go below, except in case of emergency.
Car breaks down in winter - emergency.  Need another round at the bar - not an emergency.

@Ty I don't NEED one. I also don't NEED a smartphone, I don't NEED a MacBook Pro, I don't NEED to ask people how their days were. I just would like to have one. To build credit.

@McMinty what the fuck... so now we get to wait even longer before having a credit history? For christ's sake, I'll be 21 when I graduate college. I'm kinda gonna need a credit history to get good loans and get approved for leasing an apartment, etc.
Lol, I agree with that. I think it would be good to get a credit card - I'm not going to go off on some sort of lavish spending spree .. yet at the moment, I don't really have a credit history.

Never. Why use your money when you can use someone elses?

Credit card company are one step away from criminal loan sharks. Teaser rates, incentives to spend, hard to understand ways of charging interest and fees.

You are asking for trouble even going there. Like some have said, use a prepaid card.

The banks are criminals, plain and simple. The politicians are duplicitous with them in destroying our economy. The real terrorist are not in Afghanistan, they are in washington d.c. And the bankers are but one extension of the government.

Fuck 'em, don't give them a dime of your money.
