I will be building my new computer this weekend and was wondering your opinion on how to re-install BF2 on to the new rig.

I have copied my BF2 folder onto a new internal hard drive that I WILL reinstall into the  new computer.  However, I was not sure if this is the most effective way to "import" the game (will it run as smoothly?) as I want to put it onto my Raptor drive that is currently empty.  OR should I just re-install the game?

If I reinstall, and get the latest patch, will I still have my current unlocks, stats, points etc?  Is that held in my EA account?

Thanks

Your stats should remain the same.  However, I don't know about the cd key being registered on a new cpu.

I would just reinstall.  As long as you have the CD Key, it shouldn't be a problem.

No biggie about the CD Key.  Did a fresh install with a completely different OS (one drive WinXP the other Server 2003 both had BF2 on them).  As a matter of fact, I still played Battlefield 2 off the same harddrive after I went from an old AMD 2000+ to my P4 System.  Just updated a few drivers and whatnot.

Obviously they don't want to see the same CD key pop up for two people at the same time from different machines.  So as long as you're running one copy (at a time) then you're fine.

Buddy of mine can run 4 people at his house.  That's also $200 worth of BF2 games for 4 unique keys.

Just copy the BF2 folder that is under your My Documents to the other computer, and place it somewhere besides My Documents.  Do a clean install of the game on your new computer, delete the BF2 folder that was made with the new installation (the one under My Documents), and then copy your BF2 folder from your old computer into your My Documents.  This will keep all your login and configuration information, and will not affect the performance of the game.

NOTE:  Before launching the game the first time, open the BF2 folder that is under your My Documnets, open the Mods folder, and then clear the shader cache.  This will force the game to redetect the video card and its capabilities to ensure that it is properly configured.

OK - thanks - but since I am probably going to change a bunch of settings (better computer etc) and I have not really customized (much) my controls....all I should really need are my login and password and I can just re-install the game on the new machine like mentioned above right?  I don't mind tweaking my controls back (a couple button changes I think) - I just don't want to loose my unlocks etc....

MaddOps is right, do a new install. So long as you don't use the same cd key on 2 machines online at the same time it'll be no problem.

I hate going through and resetting all the controls, so that is why I do it the way I described.  If that isn't an issue for you, then simply run a normal install.  Just make sure you know your exact account name and password.

I don't think the weapon unlocks are tied directly to the account on your machine, but if I'm wrong I'm sure some one can correct me on that.

doing a new install would be fine.  All of your unlocks etc are all online on the EA account.  Imagine if they weren't... people would have found hundreds of ways to have all of them unlocked if it was kept on some local file.
