Everything was started by the government from oil money, what's your point? They used forethought knowing oil was a limited resource and invested the profits in other long term enterprises, all of which are profitable in their own right.Red Forman wrote:

Its Dubai specific where only 5% of their economy is oil based now. Most of the rest of the Emirates are following its lead though.Mekstizzle wrote:
I remember reading about how most of their (UAE, or just Dubai Emirate) revenue doesn't even come from oil anymore. It may have started off with oil, but they were smart and made it so they weren't reliant on oil. Or maybe they still are, I dunno for sure. They're doing better than most of the countries around them in terms of diversification.
What the hell was, specifically that area of the Middle East important for before oil anyway. Exporting Arabs/Islam and being the holy centre with all the Mecca box stuff
