He was an officer of the state. Yes you miss the point. Have you investigated the state laws of PA at all? Note that these state laws are in addition to the Federal laws. Most people, foreigners especially, are clueless when it comes to how our gun laws work. Your broad insinuations in this thread has reaffirmed this belief for me. My guess is you'd probably shit bricks when you realize how close they resemble most every other western countries gun laws.

I have a gun license here in the UK & I have to reapply every year, go to the cop shop for a formal interview to see if I look like a nutter, they can also access my medical records if they wish & then they do a home visit to see where the guns are stored etc to check they are kept in a locked cabinet. Also the police can & do random visits to check on the fire arms at any time they wish. The system works well tbh its a bit of a pain in the arse once a year. The point is it makes owning a gun legally more tricky so we have less gun crime here in the UK because of the tight controls on firearms.

Does the same kind of system exist in the USA or is once you have a permit that's it your OK unless you get a criminal conviction?

I guess it should be illegal to marry some fucking psycho. Also it should be illegal to have guns. Also knives. Also shovels. Also married couples should be kept contained in adjacent cells to protect them from any unforeseen psychotic breaks or the use of any unforeseen implements of violence. Also on cctv. Also they should call cookies biscuits and grills barbies. Honestly people, it shouldn't be legal to do stupid things! We just need 'proper' laws until "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is "foolproof" (thx, some_random_panda), because even fools should be protected from doing anything foolish.

Okay, all narrow-minded retardation aside, this thread is now for posting pics of your guns:

yeah, there's a lot of fighting back when you get your bell rung with a frying pan or when you get stabbed in the throat with a kitchen knife or someone opens your chest with an axe while you sleep.  destroying every mean, nasty gun won't make people less crazy or you more safe.

Dude. That is fucking genius. I can't believe nobody thought of that until now. I'm not being sarcastic. Why would a kitchen knife made for cutting food also be a stabbing weapon? This is a lot safer, especially if you have children. Non-stabbing knives are win in my book, they should make accidental stabbings less common.

As for intentional stabbings... even a sharpened stick would suffice. These non-stabbing knives look pretty good for sharpening a stick.

I'd say the emphasis is on recently.  A bit like saying I haven't gone fishing for a while while on a fishing trip.

Thanks for quoting me out of context, fool.

- Kmarion, sure your laws might be similar in some aspects, but the fact that she can have a semi-auto pistol and have it at sporting events means that the laws are still waaaay different to ours at least (I obviously can't speak for other countries). I was making the point that is was a legal weapon, not some "gangsta" or criminal with a stolen gun, as plenty of Americans try to tell me are the only people who kill people.

- Reciprocity, if guns aren't any easier to kill with, then why don't all the worlds armies go back to using swords? The reason: Guns are easier to kill with, and harder to defend against, and usually more lethal when used. No it won't make people less crazy but it will give less crazy people access to dangerous weapons. As a race humans best talent seems to be killing each other. Giving more people the tools necessary seems like it may not be the best idea. Also, while we may not notice a direct impact in our little, suburban lives, the fact remains that America's murder rate is massively higher than any other western nation. I obviously can't say exactly why this is, but in my opinion, and thats all this entire post is, my opinion, is that there may be a direct or somewhat indirect relation between the availability of guns and a higher murder rate.

I'm not against guns, I'm against the proliferation of guns in modern society.

She had to have had a license for that gun.. which means she had to go through the typical license to carry process which included training. She was an activist. Believe it or not the vast majority of law abiding gun owners aren't concerned with toting their handgun around. I can honestly say that I have never seen anyone carrying at any sporting event, or other public gathering (gun shows aside). These situations are VERY rare. This should be obvious when the story makes it to global headlines. Her having a handgun at a sporting event was not what got her killed. The problem was that she was married to a psychopath. Yes, this man scumbag should not have had access to a gun according to OUR laws. He was an employee of the PA correctional institution. PA needs to look closer at their screening process, perhaps consider some sort of counseling program.. if they don't already have one. People slip through the system, and they always will. This man was acting out in a fit of rage. He could have came up behind her (while she was talking to another man on the computer) with any sort of blunt object and taken her life, easily .. probably with one good swing.

Yeah I'm sure her carrying a gun at sporting events is not common and fully licensed etc. I was only commenting on the fact that under our laws, it couldn't happen at all.

You're not debating me. I just thought the irony was funny. I can almost always find an American news story on the front-pages of your papers.. so I'm not buying the "I'm just out fishing right now" stuff. But really, who cares?
