Personally I hated this special ed bullshit they have in schools.

Story Time

I went to HMS in Bayonne in a pretty decent area of town for my public schooling. Things were great everyone got along everyone was happy and it was utopia for a grammar school. But it went to shit when they decided to integrate all of the Special Ed classes into our schools. So they bused in all of the Special Ed kids from all over the town right into HMS. These kids like the kid in the video didn't seem all that slow, but they were violent, poor, and generally underclassmen. The quality of the school went to shit, totally to shit. Especially when they decided that they would split up the 2 normal 8th and 7th grade classes from each other and integrate them along with the 7th and 8th grade Special Ed classes. So if you had friends in one class you had to be split up from them when going to your classes or other bullshit classes like Physical Education and shit, in order for the Special Ed students to be combined into the overall work of things. Everything went to hell because these poor, violent, students from all other parts of town downtown bayonne is a different culture and mindset from uptown and midtown bayonne started bringing down grades and causing fights, committing crimes, stealing things etc. Most of the HMS kids decided to go to private high schools are 8th grade. So the best from our school ended up in private school system and Bayonne High School ended up with whatever was left over.

Just a personal story of how much I hate Special Ed programs and integration of most types.

Ah, thanks. Here special ed refers to the programs offered to those with physical and mental disability. Not social, economic, etc.

They're lumped together here. If a kid is held back a grade due to failure or 'acting out' they'll dump him or her in a special ed class for at least part of the day with the mentally impaired.

Edit - To make it even clearer, picture the special ed kids Macbeth is talking about as poor ghetto black kids who probably only have a crackhead for a mother and no father to speak of. Hope that clears it up.

I'm getting pissed off at some of these shitty replies. These kids didn't choose to be born with a mental/disabilty issue. Nor did they choose to have it latter on.  To talk in a way that these people are second class is pathetic. The selfishness in the american society is not a surprise but is reaching lower than hell

If you would bother to read the replies, you would see the anger/disgust is directed not toward the kids who are actually disabled, but toward those who are put in special education classes simply because they are disadvantaged, not because of a disability. There is a distinct difference.

We have, in many communities here, entire schools established specifically for kids who simply cannot function in normal schools but who do not have mental/physical disabilities that prohibit their access to a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE), which is required under federal law. As such, these schools are set up for these "at risk" kids to put them in an environment where they can still get an education while not negatively impacting the education opportunities of the majority of the other kids at the mainstream schools.

Perhaps it's a matter of it being a completely different paradigm than what you're used to seeing, or it's a function of your knee-jerk hate-filled reaction to all things American. Either way, I hope you learned something.

I've never seen a problem with streaming according to ability or segregation according to behaviour.
That way everyone gets the best for them, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way.
Smart kids don't get held back, not so smart kids learn at a more realistic pace, those with special needs get more appropriate attention etc.
If kids with behavioural difficulties don't get A's then hard luck, at least they aren't screwing it up for others.

Trying to mash everyone into a mixed class and expecting good results for everyone is dumb.
Doing so for ideological reasons is borderline evil, you only get one chance at educating a child.

I was segregated according to what he mentioned. PC or not, I was moved from the lowest "ranked" stream at the start of high school to the highest based on my marks after the first year. From there on I was placed in the A stream which had the brightest students and better teachers.

At the start of high school there were a few kids with social problems, ADD, etc and it showed. I wasn't limited in my ability because I worked hard and was rewarded.

After I was moved though, the difference in behaviour and attitude towards learning was really obvious and it's not hard for a teacher or even grades to justify in which stream a student is placed.

I am not speaking of movement within the same school, IE advanced math etc. I am speaking of school change all together, and so was Dilbert if I am not mistaken.

But complaining about schools test averages dropping because you have dead beats is rather redundant, most schools will always have that type of student anyway - since most school zoning is based on location and not test scores.

I think moving kids to new entirely new schools based on marks is too infeasible for many reasons, although yes, it would have merits.

Private schools do not count because it sole purpose is to segregate.

"Bussing" occurs for the sole intent of integration with little regard to the impact of its effects. It is the PC thing to do to give troubled kids an equal shake. The fact is, more often than not,this results in a combined failure and is of little concern to those implementing it. It is my opinion that these troubled kids are the very reason they do not have an equal shake within their own school system. They have destroyed it. I feel the equal shake happens when a school is provided. What these people do with it, is not my concern. My concern is what these kids try to do with the school they are moved into.

So a person with defective genes should be elevated to being the equal of say, a genius? Just curious. Raising a person with an IQ of 60 up and saying he's equal to the man with the 160 IQ does that mentally impaired person no favors. Sure, you may have helped his self esteem in the near term but they're not equal. One IS superior. I know that's hard for you to accept but it's just life.
