What are some fall and winter business ideas?

I need some side money and im not opposed to putting in a lot of hardwork.

Im putting up signs for yard raking but havent gotten any buyers yet.

Winter obviously brings snow - ill probly be shoveling driveways for cash too but i cant do that yet cause its still 75 out.

Im wondering about a winter car washing idea..... people want all the salt off there cars in the winter - only thing is pipes freeze in the winter... hmm.

Put up Christmas lights.  Make Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas lawn decorations and sell them.

Where I live all the people pay to have their Christmas lights put up.  You can probably make $10-$15 an hour.

Where i live ive never heard of people paying to get there lights put up - which is perfect because i could bring that idea to this area.

EDIT:

Do they use there own lights or should i also somehow sell the lights to them... or atleast offer some light finding or buying service.

Also do they offer blueprints on the design or go by what the people say they want?

Usually people have sheds full of lights and Christmas baubles to decorate their homes.  Most people simply don't want to take the time to do it, but some people actually hire designers too.  If I were you I'd leave options open for both.  The key is to start early in the season (like week of Thanksgiving) and try to spread by word of mouth.  If you do a good job people will recommend you.

You could draw up sketches of your ideas, but nothing too fancy.  Just make sure it looks good and tell people you'll do whatever designs they want.  Maybe they'll even let you put a distress signal to the NWO on their roof.

He already has a job.  He's trying to make extra  money.  To a lot of people paying $100 for a kid to put up their Christmas lights is cheap.  If I lived in a huge house and actually cared about having Christmas lights up, I'd pay it.  As it was, the only reason we put up Christmas lights when I was a kid was because all the neighbors did it too and we didn't want to be left out.  Mitch could bank on this human tendency and get like 5 houses in a row or even a whole street.  Maybe even hire his friends and pay them a few dollars cheaper than what he is getting.

What you're all forgetting is that people pay a lot of money to have the simplest things done. For instance, we recently paid someone 100 euros to take the back off our microwave, and tell us we need a new one. Two years ago, we paid some other guy 120 euros to tell us our washing machine was fucked. Both of these jobs took about 20 minutes. People expect to pay 100 dollars/euros for the smallest of tasks.

The 10-15 you mention is what I used to pay my help when I was doing it. I would charge between 150-300 to install the lights plus a premium on hangers, bulbs and fuses.

Do not do this.

I am in the process of becoming a qualified builder/carpenter here in Aus. Working with insulation is a bastard. Fucking itchy shit. Avoid it if you can.

Buy some lights and sell them at a small premium. People will much rather pay for your lights than hop in their, head over to walmart, walk around, wait in line, then drive home.

Best if you can find some at a wholesale price, you'll need more money to start that though.

Never seen it before.

It sounds a) expensive and b) a bit like sikaflex. i.e shit builders who can't do their jobs properly have to use.
