ACORN corruption: Founder's brother stole $900,000 – helped elect Obama

SF Gate wrote:

Activist group ACORN started in 1970 to help poor people in Arkansas and by decade's end went national, expanding into a multimillion-dollar conglomerate with a mission so far-flung that schools now bear its name, two radio stations are affiliates and a man its political arm endorsed is the president. Oh yeah — and it's the unwilling star of a hot Internet video featuring a couple dressed as a hooker and her pimp.

And that last bit is just one of its problems.

The organization praised for its Hurricane Katrina relief efforts and treated by federal, state and local governments as a valuable public resource has had nearly $1 million embezzled from it by its founder's brother. The openly Democratic-leaning group has seen its employees accused of voter registration fraud, and taking it down has become a cause celebre for Republican lawmakers, activists and pundits.

...
Is this a scandal for President Obama or is this an unfounded accusation by Republicans?

It's definitely a scandal, perhaps not directly linked to Obama, but definitely about what our government has been funding and who they are hiring with out tax dollars.

From the SF article: "James O'Keefe, one of the two filmmakers, said he went after ACORN because it registers minorities likely to vote against Republicans: 'Politicians are getting elected single-handedly due to this organization,' O'Keefe told The Washington Post. 'No one was holding this organization accountable.'"

While I would agree that ACORN is corrupt, and I'm happy it no longer receives government funds, people like O'Keefe need to realize that conservatives do similar things.  The only difference here is that ACORN was receiving government funds.  That's the illegal part.  There is clearly a conflict of interests by having tax money involved in such a heavily partisan organization.

Then again, I'd like to see O'Keefe complain about all the churches that bundle campaign funds for GOP candidates.  That's also illegal because of the tax exemption of religious institutions.

I'll bet my paycheck there is far more money going out of church offering plates to the left than there is to the right.

I wouldn't suggest that...  Compare the number of churches in America that are very socially conservative with the ones that are socially liberal.

Typically, the churches with the most money are suburban, predominately white, and are quite conservative.  See John Hagee's church for an example.
