I'm trying to find an english link at this time, but just saw this on TV:

From what I gathered from the reporting, they had a jam in the main gear and couldn't drop it, so the emergency crew foamed the runway and it made a belly landing safely It was carrying 78 people at the time, 5 of them crewmembers.

GG to the pilots. That could have been very tragic.

Looks like they were quite lucky it had tail-mounted engines.

That was my thoughts when I saw the plane. It would not have been pretty with wing mounted engines.

Amazing job by the pilots overall, I don't know if it could have been any more perfect.

Quality Dutch products. Even when they DO break down, you'll still be able to use them safely.

Modern airliners' wing-mounted engines are designed to break away in those situations while leaving the wings (and fuel tanks) intact. But regardless, it is probably better overall that it was a tail-mounted design.

This, and this again.

Nice job by the pilots though, the only other large scale belly landing done succesfully i've heard of recently was the BA flight that went down at Heathrow.

In a mildly ironic turn of events, I found out the callsign for the plane is this:

D-AFKE
