We all heard about how Newspapers are going out of business because more and more of us are using online portals for our news.

But advertising, especially in this economy, is not enough to keep these online new agencies solvent.  So Google has a solution:

Looks like they are using the Google Checkout Service (similar to PayPal), to allow New sites to have us make Micro-payments for access to content.

Good idea?  How much would you want to pay to see the rest of an article?  Will this work better than a monthly/yearly subscription model?

Either I lose my monthly access costs or Neg.

We already pay £140 a year for the BBC/TV Licensing so might aswell use that.

Yeah good luck with that. If news websites start charging, they are going to fail.

It's fine with me.  I don't particularly like it, but I understand their motivations.

I already pay for cable, I'd go back to TV for my news

They can try it but someone will always put the info out there for free. When newspapers first come online I thought a lot of them wanted paid subscriptions but that early model failed and then they went to advertising. Anyway, its free craigslist that has hurt the newspapers the most by depleting their classified ad revenue. They can try to charge for information but like I said free information is what the internet does.
