i had gone to Manhattan last April. We did the tourist thing, saw Central Park, Midtown, and when we got south of Wall St. there was a chainlink fence. There is still a hole in the skyline there.
I had wanted a picture to remember this by, and as i was trying to get a little a closer another group of tourists nudged their way in. I looked up, and let them. I stood my ground while they paid their respects. I took their picture as they left.

On the way to work this morning, a couple of fire engines were parked just in front of a small WTC memorial near the fire station, made from steel from one of the towers.

Creepy that it was only 8 years ago. Still remember it very well.
I'll never forget seeing a jet in the sky (probably coming from the Air National Guard base around here) doing a 180 on a dime. I actually think seeing that was one of the first things that got me into aviation. Ironic considering what happened within aviation that day.

The difference was that I was in Kindergarten, probably 5 or 6. I remember watching it on TV, while eating cereal before I went to school. Once I went to school, there was a random pilot there, and we were asking her our innocent little 5 year old questions about what happened.
I went to NY and saw Ground Zero in the summer of 2004, I will never forget that day, and I will never forget the day it happened... I remember I was getting ready to go to school... and then it all happenend, the saddest day in school had just happened..

I was working at UPS and I was making a delivery to the back door of an department store in South Tampa. A lady came out and said to me, "Did you hear? A plane flew into the WTC." First thought, oh crap that sucks. I was saddened, but I did not understand exactly what was going on. Two or three deliveries later a friend called me up and said another plane hit the other tower. At this point I knew this was not an accident. The odds were just too unlikely. It was obvious that this was planned. I started getting text message updates on my phone from friends. 10:30 am and before is crunch time at UPS and you can't really stop. Not knowing what was going on was driving me crazy. When I heard that one of the towers collapsed, my heart sank. The feeling was surreal. I was worried about my friends and family. I heard DC was attacked as well, and I didn't know the extent of what was going on. Was my city going to get hit? It sounds almost absurd today, but when you are hearing things that seem so unlikely you start to imagine all kinds horrors. Once I found out that the second tower fell I made my way to a TV inside of a Pottery Barn. Customers and employees were all standing around watching the replays of the planes hitting. No one was talking. Everything stopped that day. The trivial stuff we bicker and complain about now disappeared in an instant.

I was in class that day. Our teacher brought in a TV and we watched everything for 6 hours straight.

i was working for a company, that rented computers and A/V equipment. That September morning, there were two shows, at the Salt Palace Exhibition Halls.
The first show was for Aeronautics and Aerospace, and my customers that morning were Boeing and Lockheed/Martin-Marietta. They wanted a tv with tape player, Boeing wanted a laptop and flatpanel.
In the next hall over, it was the Insurance and Annuity gathering, a bunch of insurance types. When i showed up at the loading docks, the security told me go ahead, but didn't know if the show was still on. i asked why and he said "You haven't heard? A plane hit a building in New York". i got out, started pulling equipment, when one of the Salt Palace workers saw the tv. He said, "Hey, will that do cable?" i said yeah, but it's for the Aerospace show. He said "I don't give a fuck, c'mon, bring it over here".
He led me to a jack, and pulled out a 4' cable. Plugged it in, turned on channel 2, and i first saw the plane hit the building. i said "oh, shit, when did that happen?" and he said "Shut up, this is live now, something else is happening".
i sttod there, and my beeper went off. My office was paging me. i stood there, watching . . .
There was a guy, in a booth, said his home office was in the North Tower. There was another guy, out on the dock behind the Aerospace hall, said his brother was flying to LA. There was my office manager, pulling me away from the tv, saying it was time to go.

I still wish they used Donald Trump's plan to rebuild the towers - make 'em higher and make 'em stronger.

I don't think the pace will be picking up anytime soon. Especially considering the recession.
