Constant crashing, mainly within Steam games.

While playing games, usually on Steam, my computer crashes within 5 minutes of play. Near infalliably.

I start up play, then after 5 mins or so, the computer appears to crash, with the sound looping on the segment it was on, and the source to my monitor cutting out (my monitor keeps trying to find a source on the digital and analogue channels)

Ive no idea what this is related to or how it occurs (now error codes etc.) sometimes after crashing the resolution will have changed upon restartup.

Is this a known problem and can anyone help me?

Im upgrading RAM soon but not sure if its a problem with the GFX

Same! But not constantly, and only at the chalkboard section upon entering a new server or round. Same symptoms though.

Gah, why is this happening

Im getting a friend to help check out the inside soon, but just now i noticed my CPU was maxing out, constantly at 100%, and this is only on L4D, its certainly no Crysis..

Do you get a blue screen? Looping sound? Black screen? Please be more specific than "crashing".

not BSoD. By crashing I mean the game stops, the screen goes black with sound looping. My monitor flicks between showing digital and analogue in the top left corner. When I turn off the computer by the power switch and turn on i am prompted as to whether i want to go into Safe mode.

I'm pretty sure I don't have nTune. Will it be in nVidia corporation in the start menu if I did have it?

Can you give me an idea of where to start looking with software conflicts?

In the C:/NVIDIA folder the following programs I have are: Display Driver, nForceWinVista, WinVista

Any of those problematic?

One other point, this crashing I have accidentaly noticed can be caused if the desk the computer on takes a hard knock. E.G. I brought my leg up to put my sock on and accidentaly hit the desk (retarded I know) and the computer had crashed in the same manner Im talking about here. Do you think that some of the hardware is loose/faulty connections.

Check the connections on your mobo, they may be loose.
This may be another sign your hard drive might be dying, install SpeedFan, and run the SMART analysis, and post a screen shot of the "In-Depth" test; the one where it launches your browser to view your results.

Remove all your hardware and replace it.

Maybe your PSU is starting to fuck up. Could also be overheating, or even a combination of both. Or maybe recently you upgraded your drivers for your GTX but something went wrong. Uninstall the drivers and use something like driver cleaner to do it properly, then reinstall the latest ones.

I'm trying the speedfan but in the SMART option there aren't any HDDs appearing in the drop down list....

Also am I meant to get driver cleaner by illegitimate naughty ways or is there a freeware version? Now that you mention in this shit I started noticing after the latest driver install.
