The worst part is I have to read all kinds of excerpts from different works, some of which are only a chapter long, yet I'm forced to by the book only to have the correct edition.

im busy collecting a modern library and you're still working out of textbooks like a schoolboy!

Edit: YES Poschy, precisely. The modernist short stories and the poetry that are typically published in 'complete' editions- you end up paying $10 for a book when all you're going to read is some uber-pretentious, shitty horror story that takes up 3 pages. Academic essays and literary theory/criticism stuff is even worse. Especially when it's rare and you have to fork out even more dolla for a book that you'll only ever use for one essay reference.
