A new bf2s group eh? I guess that's a good thing since I don't think many of the people from the first group still come here; then we started using the trackr group but then trackr shut down

I wasn't gonna clutter this thread, but since it is THE official last.fm thread, I might as well post my profile (instead of assuming people weren't going to be too lazy to click the link to the members page on last.fm and add from there )

What exactly does the Scrobbler do, takes music from my iPod and puts it into the last.FM player?

Any idea if the Last.fm player looks for song info like lyrics and displays them while playing? That's what I'd be interested in.

Well trackr is obviously a no go. Viper007Bond is not active. I wasn't sure if an admin needed to be available . If the consensus is to keep the old group I'll change the link.

Scrobbler simply takes what's being played and records it for you, so you can keep track of songs you're listening to. It gives you artist details and similar artists in the scrobbler.

The scrobbler just tells the site what music you listened to on your media player. Clicking it brings up a window with the artist and song, a brief bio of the artist, tags of that song, similar artists, and lets you "love" the song, tag it, or share it with others by using the buttons.

You can also listen to a radio station tailored to your tastes. It's similar to Pandora in that aspect, however they are very different. Pandora is more "well you like this song, and technically you should like this other song because of this, that, and the other". Last.fm is "our users thought this song sounded like this, so here's another song that they thought sounded similar." I suppose it's a robot telling you what you should listen to vs. another human telling you (nothing wrong with either one).

It's a very small application that runs in the background with minimal resources.

Now if only there was some way for it to scrobble music that I listen to on my PSP, in my car, and on my stereo, then my play count would actually be somewhat accurate.

It's v2 I guess. I'd prefer a group of active members, even if it is smaller, over a larger group with people that don't even use last.fm or bf2s.com anymore.
