Ok listen up soldiers,

My internet occasionally drops dead for 2 days or so. Yes this pisses me off. No there's nothing I can do about it.
Anyways, when I DO have internet BF2 works like a charm. However if internet is gone Im expierincing problems with BF2, example :
I'd like to play some singleplayer against bots to practise my flying skills and such.
So I start up BF2, I get the nice picture "Battlefield2" then I wait for the EA and DICE thing to show up.
But they never come..Im looking at a black screen for like 5 minutes.
Pissed off I press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, It says : BF2 not responding.
I reinstall, patch up see if it works..NO, still not responding.
HOWEVER, if I wait like 6 min. It DOES work and I get to play the singleplayer thing..wtf!?
Now I have internet again. I start up BF2. and within 10 sec the EA and DICE commercial fly's over my screen.
Why is BF2 being a bitch when Im offline and why is it working when im online?

And a lil side question,

If I give a command to my squad, telling them to attack a Flag. Can the enemy see the orange smoke grenade as well?

Ummm yeah BF2 looks for an internet connection or something on the net when it starts but shouldent take that long when it doesnt find one... i dont know how to stop it doing this someone might... *shurgs*

However for singleplayer get Coop 3.0 mod makes single player heaps better!

well, as far as I know, BF2 will indeed look for an internet connection when started up. But I agree with smurf that it shouldn't take 6 minutes to recognize there is none. I suppose it could be a firewall issue, but I am no expert in that field. Maybe someone else can help.

colored smoke ? actually, I don't remember seeing a lot of colored smoke on the maps apart from the ones I ordered myself or was ordered by SL/COM.
My guess would be that you can only see your own squad's smoke. I will try to look for that tonight.

LOL No only the squad the command is for can see it! your team mates if not in your squad cant see it either!

If it is hanging on the videos (I think that is what you were saying with the "EA and DICE things") then I would try moving those videos so that it doesn't play them at startup. At the very least it will allow for a bit quicker load into the game.

Just search for instructions, it has been mentioned numerous times on the forums.

Yeah like voodoo said, just save yourself 261 MB of load time and rename or delete all the files in:

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies

The game will load pretty fast and you wont have the annoying video in the background playing which causes alot of my browser lag.

Like we don't already know EA made the game, people don't want to have to wait to see an advertisment (which is what it is essentially) everytime they load, christ they paid for it already.

Just a thought!. - if you do the video thing as suggested and this doesnt help try disabling your network connections if you still have your internet settings in there and the card is active it will have to wait for a time out, however if its disabled it should realise quicker that there is no connection and start quicker
