Terrific looking launch.  Well done NASA.  I couldn't see it from here, way too much cloud cover.

I missed it lol, but I was just outside looking at Jupiter through my telescope. I managed to watch the live feed of the external fuel tank fall away from the shuttle.

That was awesome. I really want to see a launch of a shuttle, OR an Ares rocket some day.

That was awesome.. seeing the clouds light up from the ground up for about 10 seconds before the shuttle emerges.

Reported sightings in the UK. Someone posted a picture of the external tank and the separated and trailing the shuttle. The sun rising at 5AM lit them up.

So weird seeing that just minutes after we saw:

I hate long exposed shots of the sky/space that give a false impression of what it really looked like, it was all probably just a small useless dot in the sky

It is a small dot in the uk. The video was an accurate impression. Those long exposures probably aren't intentional. You get that because the camera has a hard time gathering light and so the shutter stays open.

El Beardo if you were in Springhill, FL and you didn't see Jack shit you're doinit wrong (Time and direction). Those UK folks didn't see what we saw.. they saw it as it was about to enter orbit, moments after the ET was jettisoned.

This is what it looked like from Tampa (Which is about the same distance)

The ISS just went overhead, and I didnt see it!

If I knew it was going over, I'd have gone and looked for it.

A full moon is visible in this view above Earth's horizon, photographed by a crew member from the International Space Station while Space Shuttle Discovery (STS-128) remains docked with the station. A portion of a station solar array wing is at left.

I'm glad to hear they have Buzz Lightyear stowed for the return journey home.  Apparently he's been up in the ISS for over a year now!

To infinity and beyond!

Yes, they were talking about it on Spaceflight now before the launch. Apparently he now holds the record for longest time in space.

The shuttle has undocked from the ISS and is expected back Thursday at 7 PM EST.
