California goes up on eBay and Craigslist

The governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is holding an online "garage sale" in his latest effort to balance the US state's budget.

The Great California Garage Sale will see 6,000 items, including everything from cars to coat racks, auctioned off on two websites, eBay and Craigslist
but wait, there's more

Mr Schwarzenegger has even autographed the sun visors of several of the vehicles on sale to raise their values.
"I look forward to selling these signed cars and making some $ for California," he tweeted last week as he signed the visors.
State Senator Dean Florez told the Los Angeles Times that he was "amazed" Mr Schwarzenegger still resorted to "antics that are kind of reflective of a person that is larger than life".

lol

Isn't your Federal Government going to just bail them out or something, the deficit is $26bn which is short change considering the shit that has been done by them recently. We're talking about Schools and such being shut down (or so I've heard). Surely more important than saving the Car industry and other stuff. I dunno...

Interesting, what's going on there in that state, though.

NYC's government isn't restricted by popular referendums.

lol, continuing crysis.

There is a wall of text I could write here, but I'll just say that if you want to see what a democrat majority can do, combined with a failure of a federal government and open borders, look over here.

They just need to raise taxes and pay everything off... very easy solution.

Yes, however California's popular referendums block any significant tax increases.

In California you need 2/3rds in the house and senate to raise taxes - that's part of our constitution.

ALL of the referendums to raise taxes in the March elections failed miserably (like 70 or 80% said no in each of them).

The single republican that voted for the tax increases in February is now being recalled (http://www.recalladams.org/).

After Arnold voted for the tax increases there was a movement to recall him (http://totalrecall2009.com/), but it has pretty much died because of how well he did on the latest budget - he didn't raise taxes.

Car fees have doubled and the average California pays about $1200 / year more in taxes from a year-ago.

I agree ATG.  This is a great example of people wanting everything and not wanting to pay for it.

Wait, I thought all you Yanks hate tax increases because you seem to think everything can be paid for by the magic government fairy?

But yes, tax increases are quite obviously what they need. The government should just stop paying for stuff like garbage men until people get their shit together and vote it through.

If they want to keep all of the unnecessary spending then yea.  They also need to loosen the resections on business.  And kick out the illegeals.  Meh, just decriminilize pot and tax it.
