Ice Hockey looks like fun, I can skate decently and I'm alright at regular Hockey. But I've always looked at sports like Ice Hockey as elitist. Well, not elitist, but it's not a sport you and some friends can exactly just go out and play, you can only play it in a specialised area with special equipment and all of that.

That's why football is so popular, you can just go to a field, get a ball, make two goals with your bags or whatever, and start playing. It's different for most other sports.

Football is a simple game in setup, yet it can also be complex and it's also good for fitness. It checks all the boxes a sport needs to be really popular. Quite simple... as to why it's the most popular sport in the world, really.
