the reason they suck is that most can't be played with "mates" becuase they've gotten the idea that an overpriced, laggy, and overrall shit online multiplayer is better than any form of local multiplayer mode.

And liking new stuff purely because it's new is one of the most idiotic concepts I've ever heard of. Unfortunately it's what drives the gaming market.

lol k, check subscription figures. I have never once had an experience with lag that came anywhere close to PC standards. Local multiplayer? yes you can you tool, it happens all the time. Split screen? sure, if you want to have to squint at everything, be my guest.

as far as 3 goes, that is the worst argument I've ever heard, and yet I hear it all the time. For starters I never said PC online was free, I said "there's no extra fee" because internet is never free, but with XBL you are paying extra for a worse service.

1) splitscreen is fun, just like it's more fun to see a movie with friends rather than both seeing the movie seperately and talking about it later. Anyways most current console games have some sort of radar that gives away peoples positions.

2) not entirely sure what you're saying here, but with matchmaking it drops you into a server without you having any control, so if you're pinging 3000 there's not much you can do other than quit and try again.

4) I mean more control than vetoing maps.

2) Matchmaking doesn't drop you into a game randomly you tool, it assigns by ping, and on some games player level. And on XBL, it works fantastically

3) for XBL, you are paying for a console-console+media service. And for that role, it does it fantastically. No, it won't let me order shopping or look at giraffe porn, but that's what a PC is for

4) You have more control than vetoing maps you dolt, you can filter for games you want to play before you join the autosearch.

1) There's something about hanging out together that is a lot better than just talking to each other. And anyways, the voice chat on consoles is such poor quality it's hard to understand anything they're saying.

4) You're still not getting nearly the control that you would for less money on a PC.

Maybe if the service was actually any better than the competition it would be justifiable to charge a little more, but it really isn't at all.

I still don't get why people always fall back on the XBL is sooo much better bit, and the only thing anyone here has been able to explain is that it has cross game chat. Seems like a pretty minor feature to justify a subscription when you can buy a different console for cheaper(or even the same price with the rumored xbox price cut) and play the same games online for free...

3) PC can be just as social if you have friends, often moreso. Still, the most social is splitscreen.

Yes they do it to make money, but the only way they can do that is if people go along with it. I don't think corporations have to be nice to their customers, but I think customers need to stand up for themselves so they don't get abused by corporations.

If a corporation can make a lot of money by selling overpriced garbage to an uninformed consumer base, they probably should for economic reasons, but that doesn't make it a good thing.

What I'm saying is that maybe it would be smart for the customers to pay a little more for a truly better service, but you shouldn't spend extra for a worse service, just like you wouldn't buy a game boy for more than a 360.

The way i see it;

the PC is what i play my more serious games on; EvE, RTS's and all that - that's my proper gaming experience.

i bought the Xbox after my PS2, because that's what my mates had, and we all had similar game tastes, so it made a lot of sense.


And when it comes to paying for XBL, yes, it has it's flaws, and yes it's not free, but i see it as such;

I'm not poor, if i can afford to spend £30ish a month on smoking, and maybe double that on drink, and then clothes, transport, social things, eating and all that, then £40 p/a is not something i'm going to notice. And so far, it hasn't been. So for me the money isn't an issue at all - it doubles the use of my console, so i'm going to pay for it. Hope that all made sense.

I think really if you're looking for a social aspect with current gens it depends on what your friends have, no argument can change that. Still, 360 probably has the worst deal when it comes to social play.
