As said, get a PS2. 360 and PS3 both suck.
I wish my PS2 was still working. If I could find a working one for <£30 I'd get it. Or I could wait and see if a future firmware update brings BC back to the PS3 (unlikely, for at least some time, or at all)
i guess they suck if you aint got mates to play them with. or if you're 'too cool' to like new stuff.Miggle wrote:

the reason they suck is that most can't be played with "mates" becuase they've gotten the idea that an overpriced, laggy, and overrall shit online multiplayer is better than any form of local multiplayer mode.FatherTed wrote:

So XBL (havnt used PSN much) is laggy, overpriced and shit?
lol k, check subscription figures. I have never once had an experience with lag that came anywhere close to PC standards. Local multiplayer? yes you can you tool, it happens all the time. Split screen? sure, if you want to have to squint at everything, be my guest.

On PC you have control over the lag, when you pick a server you know how high the ping is. With matchmaking you get no control over anything.
Splitscreen is loads better than online for playing with RL Mates, it's what older consoles did well, and it's something that PCs rarely do. If I want online multiplayer I'll use my PC because it's got far better service, and there's no extra fee. If I want to play with mates I'll pull out my PS2 or N64.

1) Splitscreen - sooooo much fun knowing where everyone is by looking at their screen
2) Lag- yes, many games give you a lag indication
3) PC free online? Maybe to you, who pays for your broadband?
4) Matchmaking, No control? - Pass me what you're smoking.

The PS3 is more reliable, I've heard online is way easier to set up on PS3 than xbox, and if your going to be talking to no one, there's no reason why you should listen to the "XBL is better" fags.
$300 for the better console with 120gb hd is an absolute steal, and think about it, the coolest people here have PS3s, me, jord and surgeons.
Surgeons even owned an xbox360 and then decided to get a ps3, why would he do that? Because PS3 is better. And at this new price it's awesome.

as far as 3 goes, that is the worst argument I've ever heard, and yet I hear it all the time. For starters I never said PC online was free, I said "there's no extra fee" because internet is never free, but with XBL you are paying extra for a worse service.FatherTed wrote:

1) splitscreen is fun, just like it's more fun to see a movie with friends rather than both seeing the movie seperately and talking about it later. Anyways most current console games have some sort of radar that gives away peoples positions.
2) not entirely sure what you're saying here, but with matchmaking it drops you into a server without you having any control, so if you're pinging 3000 there's not much you can do other than quit and try again.
4) I mean more control than vetoing maps.
So ye there's a new slim ps3 out for $299
1) You know about those headset things? and how you can have private games hosted on the internet? And you know that if you really want to do splitscreen, you still can? kthxMiggle wrote:

3) for XBL, you are paying for a console-console+media service. And for that role, it does it fantastically. No, it won't let me order shopping or look at giraffe porn, but that's what a PC is for
4) You have more control than vetoing maps you dolt, you can filter for games you want to play before you join the autosearch.

It is not a question of whether I can afford XBl, I just do not see why you should pay for their network services. I mean you bought their damn machine atleast let people go online for free. But in the end I agree with this statement:FatherTed wrote:

1) There's something about hanging out together that is a lot better than just talking to each other. And anyways, the voice chat on consoles is such poor quality it's hard to understand anything they're saying.FatherTed wrote:

4) You're still not getting nearly the control that you would for less money on a PC.
Maybe if the service was actually any better than the competition it would be justifiable to charge a little more, but it really isn't at all.

2) Explain the difference between random, and having no control
3) Because in all honestly, gaming on the PC is far less social then on a console. So fuck the money, i'm not a tight bastard
4) So, it's easy as hell to use, i can jump into a game within 30 seconds without having to know anything about ping and all that, and even better, not having to give a shit about it

You might not be a tight bastard... but why pay if you don't have to?
Xbox is a console-console+media service.... so is PS3, and I CAN use it to look at giraffe porn...
I still don't get why people always fall back on the XBL is sooo much better bit, and the only thing anyone here has been able to explain is that it has cross game chat. Seems like a pretty minor feature to justify a subscription when you can buy a different console for cheaper(or even the same price with the rumored xbox price cut) and play the same games online for free...

3) PC can be just as social if you have friends, often moreso. Still, the most social is splitscreen.
4) Ignorance is bliss.
Yes they do it to make money, but the only way they can do that is if people go along with it. I don't think corporations have to be nice to their customers, but I think customers need to stand up for themselves so they don't get abused by corporations.
If a corporation can make a lot of money by selling overpriced garbage to an uninformed consumer base, they probably should for economic reasons, but that doesn't make it a good thing.
What I'm saying is that maybe it would be smart for the customers to pay a little more for a truly better service, but you shouldn't spend extra for a worse service, just like you wouldn't buy a game boy for more than a 360.
oh never mind, you're like the lowing of the OT section.

the PC is what i play my more serious games on; EvE, RTS's and all that - that's my proper gaming experience.
i bought the Xbox after my PS2, because that's what my mates had, and we all had similar game tastes, so it made a lot of sense.
And when it comes to paying for XBL, yes, it has it's flaws, and yes it's not free, but i see it as such;
I'm not poor, if i can afford to spend £30ish a month on smoking, and maybe double that on drink, and then clothes, transport, social things, eating and all that, then £40 p/a is not something i'm going to notice. And so far, it hasn't been. So for me the money isn't an issue at all - it doubles the use of my console, so i'm going to pay for it. Hope that all made sense.

I think really if you're looking for a social aspect with current gens it depends on what your friends have, no argument can change that. Still, 360 probably has the worst deal when it comes to social play.FatherTed wrote:

I dunno, when it's social and i just wanna kick back and rape my mates on CoD4, i just wanna press a few buttons and be straight in a game. For me social=casual in that respect. Granted, i haven't used PSN much but when i have, i've found the interface a little clunky.
