Is this an idea whose time has come? A new bill in the U.S. House would allow pet owners to deduct up to $3,500 for "qualified pet-care expenses" for household pets, including vet bills.

Would the so-called HAPPY (Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years) Act give pet owners a break they deserve? Would it encourage more people to adopt abandoned or neglected pets? Would we finally be able to list some dependents on our income tax return? (Others have attempted -- unsuccessfully -- to use their pets as deductions.)
That's right a tax deduction for your pet...gee fucking wiz.

Animal abuse cases would go up since scum and dipshits would get a dog or cat for the tax break and neglect it.

Tax deductions for work animals such as seeing-eye dogs, etc., yes.
Tax deductions for the family cat/dog/fish, no.

And as Macbeth pointed out, there are plenty of retards out there who would not only abuse the deductions, but probably their pets as well.

It's not like buying a hybrid where if you own one you get a tax deduction. It's a deduction for expenses like vet visits.

Title is misleading. As it stand now no, you can not. We get a lot of proposed legislation that comes off as a bit odd. Lets see how the dems handle it.

supported, but a little too much for me.  I think 100 for each dog you own and maintain with annual vet visits

It could easily be. With that kind of rebate you could easily afford to insure your pet.

We has it.

As long as it's taking human drugs.

Wow that's dumb, I can understand people getting angry about having to pay tax and subsidise for others health care and shit like that. But to take it to another level and have it for fucking Pets, a Pet. Which is entirely fucking optional and a complete privilege!

I'll say yes, with one caveat. They can only claim it on their taxes if they are not claiming any other dependents (A.K.A. kids).

That is still a retarded idea.  My dog costs me loads in vet bills, but so what?  Why should I get a tax break?  Absolutely idiotic.
