It doesn't matter. Sony's losing a lot of profit on it and they have a whole other sector of electronics/entertainment they can focus on. If the PS3 continues to lag behind the 360 and Activision holds through on their threat, what I said may become a possibility.

I think the curviness is annoying though. I mean, it looked cool on the original when it was all shiny and curvy, but with the slim, it's not necessary. I like being able to slide my PS2 between books or something.


My main concern is still being able to swap out the HDD. I'm sure it can be done, but I don't want to void the warranty when doing so.

Shit, I'm gonna need a job ASAP. Would love to buy this thing on day one.

smaller means less cost of materials, smaller packeging thus less cost on packages, less weight on transport thus costs less.
It makes everything cheaper.

But, it doesn't look that bad I suppose. It's not like most of the shit you have near your TV or in your room looks stylish anyway. The old PS3 was probably abit too much for its surroundings if anything.

I do like the shiny Chrome style eject button flat bit though.

You could try selling your PS3 on eBay or taking it to GameStop, but even then you'd probably only get around $100 at this point in time. Still better than paying the full price for the slimmy and being left with two playstations.

I think you just gotta hook up an external HDD and copy everything from the PS3 over. (Something like "Data Backup/Restore under the System Settings menu?). I read about transferring data somewhere, forget where though.


I'm so extremely tempted to buy this after I (hopefully) sell some other shit, but I don't have a job (and probably not going to get one in this single month between now and when school starts). I'll be able to afford the system, but then I'll be stuck with one controller and one game. It'd be nice to upgrade to a 500 GB HDD right off the bat, as well as get a couple more games and controllers. Geez, I feel like consoles are more of an investment than PCs sometimes.

The PS3 has a usb port. Hook up a thumb drive, external drive, whatever... Hit "backup", plug into new console hit "Restore"

May want to do the same on your save file... I bet it backs them up too, but I am not promising

Its less materials for them to buy, its less weight per console to ship meaning a truck load holds more for cheaper distribution, and consumers like smaller products (to a point). Everyone wins. And yes, some people will "Upgrade" to a slim.

Plus there are still alot of people who buy or bought xbox 360s because they didn't want to pay a lot for a console.
Now since the price is much lower there will be alot of people buying the ps3.
The Market is still very open.
