lol you have a screw loose if you think Activision is going to pass up on 24 million possible sales. Especially on their franchises.Poseidon wrote:
It doesn't matter. Sony's losing a lot of profit on it and they have a whole other sector of electronics/entertainment they can focus on. If the PS3 continues to lag behind the 360 and Activision holds through on their threat, what I said may become a possibility.Mekstizzle wrote:
Yeah, that's abit extreme. It's not exactly a Dreamcast or..... any of those other massively failed consoles. It's already probably done better than the original Xbox did with regards the PS2, and the original Xbox wasn't exactly considered a dramatic failure either. Some people like to cause drama for the sake of drama.
The Wii will always outsell the other two. Really it shouldn't be included but people like to include it for the sake of sales measuring.
Isn't there supposed to be an update to the firmware which allows backwards compatibility?mtb0minime wrote:
Agree. I liked the shininess of it, even if it means I'd get fingerprints on it. None of this dull matte crapSamBo:D wrote:

I would orgasm if at their press conference they also announced the new slim version had backwards compatibility as well but that would never happen
oh btw Sam, I'm getting AA for PS3
agreed, i prefer the shinny top not the slim one. but tbh who gives a shit?!SamBo:D wrote:

Taken from Kotaku's live blogging:

ofc sam, Europe has more customers available to games companies but it gets butt fucked everytime.
Yeah it'll stand up on its side, and they'll have a stand for it if you wish.
I think the curviness is annoying though. I mean, it looked cool on the original when it was all shiny and curvy, but with the slim, it's not necessary. I like being able to slide my PS2 between books or something.
My main concern is still being able to swap out the HDD. I'm sure it can be done, but I don't want to void the warranty when doing so.
Shit, I'm gonna need a job ASAP. Would love to buy this thing on day one.

They definately will not have stopped you removing the HD without voiding. Its one of the best selling points for the console.mtb0minime wrote:

smaller means less cost of materials, smaller packeging thus less cost on packages, less weight on transport thus costs less.Red Forman wrote:
I have to ask, wtf is the point of the smaller, lighter thing? I mean, are you carrying it across the sahara everyday or something?Poseidon wrote:

It makes everything cheaper.
Looks like they went all out to make this as cheap as possible, because it certainly looks like that!Poseidon wrote:
But, it doesn't look that bad I suppose. It's not like most of the shit you have near your TV or in your room looks stylish anyway. The old PS3 was probably abit too much for its surroundings if anything.
I do like the shiny Chrome style eject button flat bit though.
oh wait that's just the lighting

i like it.
i might buy it.
I wish there was a trade in program. I'd totally trade in my current PS3 for this one even if I had to pay like $100-$150.
You could try selling your PS3 on eBay or taking it to GameStop, but even then you'd probably only get around $100 at this point in time. Still better than paying the full price for the slimmy and being left with two playstations.
Very true. And with a decent paying job it's a reality too.mtb0minime wrote:

I don't think I'd get that much as I'd (obviously) take the HDD. But the thing is, I'd want to transfer my info and everything from that HDD to the new one. Is there a way to do that? When I bought my 360 Elite (upgrading from my 2 year old Pro) I had to send out for a transfer cable/disc, so I don't know if Sony has something similar.
Also, pics:
Possibility of a 250 gig Slim?
I think you just gotta hook up an external HDD and copy everything from the PS3 over. (Something like "Data Backup/Restore under the System Settings menu?). I read about transferring data somewhere, forget where though.
I'm so extremely tempted to buy this after I (hopefully) sell some other shit, but I don't have a job (and probably not going to get one in this single month between now and when school starts). I'll be able to afford the system, but then I'll be stuck with one controller and one game. It'd be nice to upgrade to a 500 GB HDD right off the bat, as well as get a couple more games and controllers. Geez, I feel like consoles are more of an investment than PCs sometimes.

Why? You're just wasting more money. I see no point in doing something like that... unless you absolutely, positively need the extra inch of space.Poseidon wrote:

lol what? You need special cables and disks for the xbox?Poseidon wrote:

The PS3 has a usb port. Hook up a thumb drive, external drive, whatever... Hit "backup", plug into new console hit "Restore"
May want to do the same on your save file... I bet it backs them up too, but I am not promising
What the fuck is the point in this? Are Sony hoping that all the people who bought the first PS3 are going to ebay their old one and buy this one? It's a gimmick. They should have made it this slim the first time around if they had the capabilities, instead of making a 5kg hulking lump of plastic.
why would you want a smaller ps3
Its already been answered like 3 times.Finray wrote:

Its less materials for them to buy, its less weight per console to ship meaning a truck load holds more for cheaper distribution, and consumers like smaller products (to a point). Everyone wins. And yes, some people will "Upgrade" to a slim.
Plus there are still alot of people who buy or bought xbox 360s because they didn't want to pay a lot for a console.VicktorVauhn wrote:

Now since the price is much lower there will be alot of people buying the ps3.
The Market is still very open.
