Curfews might not be just for kids anymore in one northern New Jersey city.

Seeking to curb violence after a spate of deadly summer shootings, Paterson officials are considering an unusual ordinance that would prevent people of all ages from gathering outside in public late at night.

The measure could be the nation's first citywide, non-emergency curfew to include adults, several experts said.

"We're trying to think outside the box," said Mayor Jose Torres. "This was triggered predominantly by fear among city residents over the shootings that have been occurring this summer."

Well do you think they should start a curfew to slow down crime in the city? I don't think so.

This should be interesting if implemented.  First thing I thought was that it would only last as long as it took for someone to get arrested, then sue for a violation of their constitutional rights, as is usually done with the curfews implemented against children.  The only problem is that those curfews violate some anti-discrimination clauses in the amendments, where as this one wouldn't.  I'm curious to see how this will pan out.

Nope all they ar doing is punishing the innocent. I got a plan, how about they start enforcing the laws and actually punishing criminal behavior?

If they think this will work then they're idiots.

What are you talking about?  State and local curfews have been in effect in California for minors for a long time.
