I'm pretty sure they close roads that the Presidential motorcade is moving through?
Yeah they do, or they clear them out. One time I was walking down one of the main roads in DC and noticed it was almost totally empty. I noticed a lot of cop cars too. It was near my school so I thought some shit was going down. Then I heard sirens, and saw practically half of the Metropolitan Police Department and a bunch of Secret Service vehicles (hooray black SUVs) escorting a black limo. Apparently Obama was going to his younger daughter's school for some parent-teacher conference lulz.

One time he was coming to my school and the secret service agents swept pretty much the entire campus for unattended backpacks. When they saw one, they rifled through it (except for my friend's backpack since I told them it was my friend's and he had just gone to take a piss).

While they are within their rights to carry near Presidential speeches, it brings a lot of negative media attention.  I'm a big gun-rights supporter, but this is going to bring backlash (especially when anti-gun reporters make the news articles)!

NOTE: The Secret Service makes a secure zone around the President, where no weapons are allowed.  These protestors are not a threat to the President.

Meh, they were following the law to a T. A car could be used to kill, should no one be allowed to drive there due to the fact that POTUS was around. Hell, considering Bush was attacked by one, maybe nobody should be allowed to wear shoes when the POTUS is in your city.
And thank you.  If they weren't breaking the law, then who cares?  Oh the anti-gun crowd that loves Obama or the Union/Acorn thugs he's deployed to these meeting...  Hell, the protestors are merely clinging to their guns like the Supreme Community Organizer said...

Me?  I don't think you'd catch me within 20 miles of the SCO.  He's a lying douche bag and I really can't stomach listening to/watching him on tv -so I'd probably puke if I saw him in person.  However,  I've got a CWP so  I'm always armed but with an AR? No.

They (and some people here) still can not believe their white war hero and religious hockey mom lost to a black guy with a Muslim name and a guy who makes gaffs left and right.

Thus, you get this. I've noticed that a lot with both the opposition AND the support of Obama. It's not about his policies with a lot of people. It's about the man himself.

Rascism is the straw man argument that Pelosi and Gates want you to believe -instead of focusing on the real reason people protesting the SCO.

thats a dumb argument you are trying to make. And you know it, hell, at least everyone else here does.

That's how we roll.

Open carry is not uncommon in Arizona. Carrying a rifle at an event like this is, but his example will be followed. I'm glad they did it. They were safe and followed the law. If you are pro-gun and disagree with what these people did I think you need to reevaluate how pro-gun you really are.

It certainly is the height of civilisation to walk around with a rifle in the middle of a city. Makes everyone a lot safer, too.

We can "if" all day, but the fact is it didn't happen. The man was followed by police the entire time. He didn't come alone either, he was with other armed citizens.

I'm sure the handguns were, don't know about the AR. He did have a loaded magazine in his back pocket. Legally it doesn't matter, we can carry loaded and chambered.

didn't happen - as in the past tense .... its easy to say all this after its all done and over with but at the immediate time, it was stupid

and by doing this its not exactly helping our cause either ...... now more people will probably show up at more meetings open carrying causing more frustration for the police and secret service on having to watch this person open carrying but overlooking the guy with the intent to kill

It's easier to say "if" than didn't. Didn't is fact and "if" is still just "if".
The only person that was going to take his rifle that day was a police officer or secret service.

Some people got an education on law and rights and hopefully more people will exercise their 2nd amendment right and carry their firearms. The more people that see good honest citizens responsibly carrying firearms the better off we are. It should be common place and all American's should be comfortable with it or at least get used to it.

There will be more people open carrying at these types of events.
Why do they need to watch armed people who are not breaking the law?
There were at least 12 people open carrying firearms there and many more carrying concealed.
Even if no citizens were armed at the event how are the police going to find "the guy with the intent to kill" before he makes an attempt?

The only problem with this is that if someone in the crowd have no weapon, is pissed at president...spot this AR....humm, shit can hit the fan pretty quick. Bring it as a sign you are pro-weapon and that you want to apply your right to bear it but dont load it kthx.

How is it any different than someone taking a police officers firearm?

well I can't speak on all of America but with recent events and how the media has published us in a harsh way .... having firearms in close proximity to a President that most of America loves isn't painting a good picture for pro-gun crusaders

Why ......... you answered your own question ........ you dont' have to be breaking the law ( and yes I know they are not ) but to be that close to a president .... armed

by keeping their eyes open and observant but now the Secret Service Agent as spotted a person with an AR slinged so know he has to keep an eye on him and radio to the sniper to zero in
