An IRS staffer who had no clue that her work e-mail was being audited got canned for sending out an anti-Barack Obama message in the heat of the 2008 presidential campaign.

Cruz Salas was axed from her job of 30 years last month after supervisors at the agency's Manhattan office discovered she e-mailed six people a message falsely calling Obama a Muslim.

The Office of Special Counsel filed a complaint against Salas last March. Her e-mails violated the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal staffers from engaging in political activities at the office, her employers said.

Salas refused to talk about her messages.
Is this right?  Or was the Hatch Act used to improperly?  Also, please if you're using "work e-mail" you shouldn't expect privacy.

Technically she did break the act as well as use job resources for something other then her job.

I thought his middle name was 'husseine'?  Doesn't that automatically make you a muslim?

This is conjecture on my part, but maybe the IRS was looking for an excuse to fire her?  It does seem like a fairly innocuous reason for firing someone, but who knows.  She could have been an absolute horrible worker.

Yeah you can't bad mouth Obama like that without reprisal. It is only fashionable to trash Bush. She shoulda known that.

It is innocuous, but using your work email for political purposes is pretty fucking stupid.

This shit annoys me. Firstly, change the fucking title of the thread, she was not fired for falsely calling Obama a Muslim, she was fired because she engaged in a political Champaign at work which is prohibited.

Should could have said "Obama is great, vote for him next election." What she said wasn't the problem, it's the fact that she broke the law in saying it.

Seems like another news story worded and molded to show you how corrupt the government/law is, yet it only demonstrates how stupidly one-sided and bias the news/American nation is.
