Yea, way to go libs.  Maybe Clinton can pay a visit to Osama bin laden next and get his picture taken shaken his hand in exchange for kidnapped soldiers/journalists.
Yeah because Kim Jong 'i'm so ronery' Il is soooo similar to Osama Bin Laden.... One is a megalomaniac with an inferiority complex, the other is a psychopath that can't be reasoned with.

Hoorah for bollocks analogues, inferences and extrapolations!
good point, Kim Jong Il is harmless because he's ashamed of his small penis. /braddock

So what would your solution to this problem be? Let them rot in a North Korean prison? Or give this sad little dictator his meaningless photo-op in order to release two Americans kidnapped from China?

The meaningless gesture of a visit from a hasbeen president wasn't worth doing to secure their release?
How did you get that from what I was saying? If it brought two of ours home I could care less. Critics will argue that he threatened the whole by bending to lil kims will. I disagree. Strategically nothing has changed. A mom, a daughter, and a wife was saved from potential untold brutality. I highly doubt they would have stayed at club Pyongyang indefinitely.

I don't see why people are going goo-goo over Clinton...this was a photo op for both Clinton and Kim. If anyone thinks that Clinton magically went over there and in one day solved this is a moron. This was set up, a done deal before he even got there. This was nothing more than publicity when the dems needed some.

Don't get me wrong....I am glad that these two woman are home but politicians are politicians and if this was the Republicans...the same thing would have happened. Clinton did NOTHING.......except take some nice pics for the media.

If it was Republicans we either would have been to war or they would have sent them a care cup, empty of course.

You missed my point....politics as usual...this had nothing to do with Bill Clinton, he did nothing but show up and be the photo op for the dems. Repubs act the same way when possible. I find it funny that people on here think that Clinton really did do something here and are congratulating him. All I care is that these two women are home....regardless, but of course it has to turn into this nonsense for Clinton.

Right, cept the Republicans were demanding the freeing of thousands of east Germans while you were still in diapers (Without going to war with East Germany)

In fact, wasn't it Carter that sent the military in to free our hostages by force? Why?... simply because he wanted their rescue to be his legacy. His desperation for re-election cost more lives.

Why don't we stop playing the party game?

The old GOP compared to the new GOP are almost foreign to each other. But I concede the point.

I'll give you some points for that.. seeing as how the neo(new)-conservatives have destroyed the the GOP's image.

How does Clinton feel about that pact he signed with Il way back when?

Now that time I do remember and the US and NK actually did almost go to war over the NK nuclear program. Carter actually made the intervention in that case to resolve the conflict. IIRC Clinton's reasoning at the time was that the NK gov't would collapse soon after Kim Il Sung (whom the agreement was negotiated with) died.

As it turns out NK didn't collapse, but the NK nuclear program wasn't restarted until 2003 after that whole Axis of Evil thing and the failure of the US to live up to its portion of the agreement (NK would give up a program capable of being weaponized in return for US reactors incapable of producing anything weapons grade). After the GOP took congress back in 94 it put a halt to the agreement.

Let's see... Bill Clinton goes over to North Korea in an unofficial capacity, secures the release of the American prisoners, while granting no concessions regarding America's official policy towards the nation. Sounds like a slam dunk to me.

What would Dubya's approach have been... Send in airstrikes, have the two journalists executed and maybe send a few 1000 Americans to their death in an ill-fated ground invasion? Or perhaps 'turn the place to glass' with a nuclear strike?

How can anyone not be at least somewhat satisfied with this outcome?

That's beside the point lowing, the fact is he DID come back with those girls... alive and in one piece I might add.

He also did this in such a way that he did not compromise the US's official position towards North Korea. This was a slick political manoeuvre by Obama behind the scenes in my opinion.

Braddock come on, this was pandering at its finest. This was legitimizing that little runt in North Korea. This was the runt TELLING the US what they were going to do IF they wanted those people back. I hope Obama didn't get rug burns on his knees. ( I take that back, I hope he did)

Okay genius... paint a picture for me, if you will.

How would you have gotten those two journalists back home alive and in one piece, without sacrificing the lives of any American soldiers, and without having to change your official position towards North Korea? I'd love to know.
