I don't get it very often, but occasionally that happens to me.  Sometimes I actually lose connection to the server altogether.  One thing I did that seems to help is setting the Priority for BF2 to High in the Task Manager.  Whenever I do that, I usually don't get the connection problems.

Are you crazy format your pc .... don't do it, it's probably nothing so drastic. There are lots of issues with this problem (connection). Try dumping temp files, defrag, clear all unnecessary background tasks that might be running. Lately I found a problem with my router, it too has a firewall and had issues with bf2, so I configured that and it's working pretty well.
As for 'ping', this is a difficult one, I had a ping of 22 the other day, crappy game, connection lost. An hour later, a ping of 233, great game, smooth as... well just smooth, and no connection problems.

Do a search on these forums, there's plenty of 'knowlegeable' people on here that can get you through this.

Reformat is a last resort, that's usually held back for a pc that's crash crash crashed

Each router has a different method of configuration. You need to know the address of the router to configure it, then there's the port connection configuration.
The problem I had was losing the connection almost at a constant rate, so I checked the configuration, a little tweak, a reboot and it worked perfectly after that. Another point was that I had a new motherboard installed, that too had its own firewall, and before I turned that off, I couldn't even get on the net... I believe in security, but 3 software and 1 hardware firewall is just getting silly
A whole reformat would be out of the question.... Just too much work.

If you do have a problem with your router, try their support service. I have a Belkin, and I contacted them about a problem, they were excellent and had the problem resolved in 10 minutes.
