make sure to flag it and send an email to the Prez...

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to [email protected].

I can only imagine the level of justifiable outrage had your predecessor asked Americans to forward emails critical of his policies to the White House. I suspect that you would have been leading the charge in condemning such a program--and I would have been at your side denouncing such heavy-handed government action.

So I urge you to cease this program immediately. At the very least, I request that you detail to Congress and the public the protocols that your White House is following to purge the names, email addresses, IP addresses, and identities of citizens who are reported to have engaged in "fishy" speech. And I respectfully request an answer to the following:"

Heard about this on the way home today.

The administration is also sending out e-mails talking about how the "grass roots efforts" resulting in the denouncing of this project at the Congressional "town hall meetings" are actually organized events, sponsored by lobbyists and activist groups.

Made me think: I guess "community organizing" is fine to qualify you to be President, but it's not allowed if that community is organized to prevent you from doing what you want whether the American people want it or not.

Most of what he has said over the last week or so regarding his health care plan and the opposition to it has caused me to go from "didn't vote for him, don't care for his policies, but he's in power so there's not much I can do" to "time to build a bunker and stock up on the guns and ammo". The scary part of this is that you could almost see it coming, in the way that he has been trying to pass legislation by demonizing something then making laws against it, I just don't think anyone ever thought it would go this far. There is a huge difference between demonizing companies corporations and demonizing American citizens who are opposed to a bill you want to pass.

Chainmails are usually ridiculous... But would you want to go on a list(possibly) if you recieved or sent info on something you opposed that the govt was trying to impose?

Obama was a frigging community organizer... he should be proud that communities are getting organized
to try and stop the insanity of socialist healthcare...

There are real solutions to healthcare... Fix what we have... and not role the dice on something
that by all accounts will be extremely inefficient and beyond expensive...

I don't think they are putting together a list for people to take off the streets in black vans, more to try and combat some of the misinformation that does the circles via email chains.

Flagging an email and sending it to the whitehouse does not require you keep the names of everyone who's already received it, but I can see where you're coming from.

There was a certain amount of sarcasm in that statement, forgot the tags. The point is that, and this has less to do with the emails and more to do with what has been going on in the town hall meetings, parts of the government are trying to either cover over or dissmiss concerns of citizens as either being part of a fringe movement or as being paid off by a lobbiest group. It's concerning because in a way the government, which is supposed to be by the people and for the people, is ignoring the desires and concerns of the people to go ahead with it's plan come hell or high water.

More concerned with the growing inability to question anything he or the govt want to impart on the people... regardless of
public sentiment...

I didn't agree with Bill Clinton on a lot of things... and even George Bush... but i felt comfortable with both of them...
Knowing that they had different ideas... but at the end of the day they both loved their country and respected the people.

I get a weird feeling with BO... He says he loves the country but apologizes every time he travels... He wants everyone to prosper but he
tries to slam cap and trade and now healtchare down everyones throats before they know what hit them which will cost everyone and continue to slow the economy...

The Stimulus was supposed to stave off
a depression and all kinds of horrors... months later and little is spent and the US hasn't collapsed... despite the huge pet project stimulus.

I don't know what to say at this point
other than we will survive and things will shift back and hopefully there is a balance in govt again(so they can't cause too much damage lol)

How do you know that is all they are planning to do with information sent to them. Who said that it would be an automated response and only an automated response. I think that the government asking for people "tattle" on other is utter ridiculous and really shows how far some of these people are willing to go.

Wouldn't it have been smarter to tell the same people to simply defend them in their own words and their own debate...why in the hell does the government need to know shit about who sent or said anything against Obama. Might as well go to the town hall meetings and start taking pictures...probably wouldn't put it past them to do that at this point.

Politics in this country is so far over the top that it is just astonishing. The corruptness, the power grabs, the gifts, the misuse of OUR money is beyond any sensibility. This government is a two party country with one party now holding all the marbles and doing what they hell they want regardless if anyone read anything or not........oops.....someone might report my message here. Is that how far down we have come?

Tim Bishop of New York had to be escorted to his car by police after an angry few disrupted his town hall meeting -- and more examples like this come in every day. And they have gone beyond just trying to derail the President's health insurance reform plans, they are trying to "break" the President himself and ruin his Presidency.

Just who exactly was wiretapped in the US without a warrant? Nobody.

Guys... guys... I figured it out. Assuming the power invested in the Patriot Act can be abused is wrong. Assuming people voluntarily sending emails of other people to the government is an insidious scheme makes perfect sense though.
