Point taken, but... I think some of the problem isn't even our fault. The local governments of Afghanistan are often vastly corrupt, and Pakistan is no better in its rural regions.

I don't think any amount of increased intervention will change the culture of Afghanistan to the degree that is needed.

I would agree that there is certainly an uneven amount of effort being put forth by NATO members, but even if they were more egalitarian in participation, there are certain sociological and economic factors involved that can only be changed through time....

Afghanistan is unfortunately a perfect combination of poverty, ignorance (education-wise), religious fanaticism, cultural backwardness, and harsh terrain for extremism to flourish.

It would probably be much more advantageous to take half of the money we're spending in Afghanistan and put it towards improving domestic/border security.
