After he died, my workers all promptly cancelled their coverage because as they said ‘ health care is free ‘.
It is free to Mexican migrants, because they use phony i.d. cards. The hospitals cannot collect when they use fake names to get treatment. Me, on the other hand, if I go to an emergency room and can’t pay, they will sue me, and send me to collections, etc. The last year I had full healthcare coverage for me and my family it cost me 12k out of pocket. Obviously, it feels like too much.
The problem with the universal coverage you folks are trying to bring us, is that it will apply to citizens and non-citizens who live here now. Our schools are foundering not because of bad teachers, but because of a over influx of immigrant children. Our economy is devastated not because of bad choices by consumers, but because of market manipulation by immoral business people like Goldman Sachs. Also there is the terror we citizens feel at an out of control government spending money recklessly. I used to work for L.A. Unified School district and can tell you, graft and corruption is a cancer that is destroying us. Fraud, mismanagement and financial terrorism; that is the problem.
Now, my business is in ruins. My home is in foreclosure and I feel like there is no help or hope for me at all because of what the bankers, lawyers and politicians have done to this country.
The economy will continue to implode as long as politicians act like there is one set of reality for them, and one set for us little people. Whom will you govern? The destitute, the broken and the illegal immigrants?

I would argue that need would be a willingness to pay higher (but reasonable) prices for produce. One thing we've grown too accustomed to in America is cheap food. We pay a lot less for produce than most of the First World, partially because of our "Walmart" approach to agriculture. If these agricultural jobs paid better, more citizens would be willing to work them.ATG wrote:

Everything in America seems to be about whatever is cheapest. People don't seem to give a shit about quality.
In other cases, some of our people would rather live off of welfare than possibly work a grueling job like some of the agricultural ones.
In Europe, it's quite different. They are willing to pay more for better quality or better service. We should move in that direction if we want to improve our society (along with actually enforcing border security).
Granted, Europe does have the same problem of not wanting to do the grueling work, so they bring in Poles to do it for them.
