My 2GB of Crucial Ballistix (4x512MB) went bad, so I bought 2x1GB of OCZ Gold GX.

I swear that the game is running better, but I don't understand why.  The timings are almost the same (2.5-2-2-6 for the Crucial, vs. 2-3-3-8 for the OCZ, but I do get to run the OCZ at 1T as opposed to 2T for the Crucial).

I don't notice any drastically faster load times, but I swear that the in-game graphics are running much more smoothly.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Could be your imagination.  I always swear things are worse after I mess around with it, even if it is an improvement.

Maybe one is a lower latency. Low latency RAM is better for gaming.

I would say so. Just running the OCZ in dual channel compared to the Ballistix should make a bit of a difference.

Lol, i have like only 500MB of ram. Will getting more ram will help my game running a lot better?

It is also likely your mobo speed for the RAM differs whether you have 4 or 2 slots used.  For instance my 400mhz slows to 333mhz when all four slots are occupied regardless of manual adjustment in the bios.

Oops.  I should have put it in the tech section.  Maybe a moderator can move this.  Sorry, guys.

Yeah, AMD socket 939 mobos don't like having 4 slots used.  You can't go 1T, and you default to 333MHz.  I got mine to run at 400, but I had to go to slower timings and 2T.

Alright, here we go. I see you are running an AMD. AMD's love 1T commands per clock. Also, 2x1GB is a far superior arrangement then 4x512. Also, the first timing, CAS latency, is alot better running at 2 than 2.5.

You've got 512. 500 is impossible.

And yes, it will help DRASTICALLY. I'm running 512, and after playing on my buddies comp (with 2 gigs) I did some research and my 2gigs of XMS is due to arrive this saturday, just in time for my birthday

RAM will help your game move faster ONLY if you have the connection to back it up, you RAM is usually not the problem, 90% of the time, its your net connection.
