That said, I lurked there for a while. I find that there is a concentration of "modern audiophiles" as I call them, there. People who don't really know anything about the subject, but only go after the price and the number of three-letter acronyms on their stuff.

Now, I'm not arguing that headphones don't have good price:performance, they do, but to a certain extent.

I am by no means an expert on audio, but I was under the impression that good headphones/earphones will always sound better because you are hearing the sound directly from the source with no ambient interference. With speakers, there are more variables that affect the sound, such as the acoustics of the room.

Electrostatics are awesome. I once almost had a chance to get my hands on a set of vintage Marantz ones, but I foolishly wandered off.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Solid-state guitar amps, goes against nature a little. Probably decent for live stuff, but I doubt many would want to record with it.

Try it. Turn the effects off, turn the bass up and treble down. Then just hook something up to line in.

Not really. Cambridge make some quite decent stuff. I think you're best off just leaving it as it is.
