Come on, I already predicted a damn draw. Now we need to pull out our best performance here so I don't look like a fool. A draw was the best we could ever hope for, get in there!

Remember if Australia don't beat us, that means we won

Yeaah apparently Australia can't win now. Monty's legendary batting does it once again

lol that's it, a draw. We actually played our guts out for a draw. It's embarrassing, but also I suppose if Australia couldn't get 8 wickets in one full day...

Like I said, becuase Australia actually snatched a draw from the jaws of victory, technically we won that

1-0 it is.

Lawl. You keep thinking that.

Just remember that if we draw every game in the series we still keep the Ashes. So draw all you like, but we'll win at the end.

But Australia's bowling was shameful. To be one of the premier cricket teams in the world and not be able to get out two tail enders is pretty sad.

You'll find no argument to that statement here.

He is far too loose of a bowler and he needs to get that arm more vertical. The commentators seem to think he'll get better over the series and he'll need to if he wants to stay in the side.

at the moment... he needs to get his control back. Don't worry about swing for now, that didn't get you 5 wickets in 15 balls.

The Aussies were robbed by the weather!

Great game of cricket though and so much for the spinning Cardiff wicket.

Bring on the next test at Lord's, the home of cricket and where England have only ever beaten Australia once in 113 years!

The match was a draw the real winner was Cardiff.  Loads of positive noises coming out now the match has ended and hopefully this is the first of many tests to come.

As expected the match was a draw but the rain we were ment to have Saturday day didnt arrive until the evening.  Pontings having a bit of a bash at time wasting, but I'd expect and think Strayer might of done similar last time when they snatch a draw from the jaws of defeat.

Tbf to both teams the wicket is a shit wicket to bowl on, its ideal for batsman; its the conditions that can offer something if your bowling.

My predictions of it being a very close series have come true so far.  My biggest worry so far if I was batting for England.  You mostly failed vs Strayer and thats before Brett Lee has come back into the side.

Stroll on Thursday, lets hope for another full 5 days.  First blow to Strayer I reckon.

True but sending out the physio just to give Anderson a pat on the back... a leeeetle bit obvious.

Mind you, I don't see the draw as a negative for us at all. We took more wickets in three sessions on a flattish pitch than the English did in 7.

Which was as much the English batsmens' fault as anything else but w/e

I think it was a bit of time wasting but in 40 hours of cricket almost a couple of minutes is fuck all and both teams got through their allocated overs.

I dont like draws in cricket myself, we play 50 overs (well our 1sts) and you can have winning / loosing draws, where the 2nd team batting know they arn't going to reach the total the first team set and from 7,8,9 onwards start batting out for a draw rather than go for it, take risks and either hit boundaries or get out.

Cricket has moved on a lot recently and maybe one day this 'draw' buisness will too.

---------

Flintoff may miss the next test or even more.

Bring Harmy back, just watch out if you stood in 2nd slip when he comes in to bat.

Ive just made myself available for Saturday, I pick and choose my games when I play but I haven't played for about 2 months now.

People need to stop making a big deal about Flintoff already. I'm sick of hearing about this fredalo goon all the time when it comes to Cricket news. Is there actually fuck all else to talk about. Fuck sake.

Mitch needs more cricket, he looks underdone.

It's strange, rests for him make him worse, not better. The more cricket he plays, the better he gets.

PS. He was still the second highest wicket taker of the match (behind Nathan Hauritz...)

Yeah but Hilfenhaus bowled a much better game in my eyes and i really don't hold Siddle in high regard either.

Can't wait to see Lee get back in.

Well when he's your best batsman, best bowler and best fielder all at the same time... theres not much else to talk about. The wicket keeper maybe?

But he's none of them. Their best batsman is Pietersen, their best bowler is probably Anderson (when it swings, that is), and their best fielder has to be Collingwood.

I would say that he was their best batsman and bowler. A few years back he was deadly but now i don't think he has that capability. Still a very good all rounder but certainly not there best bowler or batsman.

Oh and get rid of Strauss as captain. The man is hopeless.

Freddie is someone who more often than not steps up to the mark.  He can win the match for us, we dont have many match winners.  He's our best alrounder, he's better than Anderson when fully fit, he'll never be the same again, those days are gone but even so, I'd rather still have this Flintoff than someone else.  Its not just Eng who keep talking about him, opposistion teams do, they respect and fear him.

Hardly a surprise Freddie retires (after this series).

I wish he hadnt gone and done the IPL, cant blame him as the pay packet was huge but thats led to his retirement

It killed Hayden's career to.

In fact I can't name a single player who went to the (First) IPL and came back in better form. The ones who didn't: Clarke and Johnson and guess who our best players in 08 were?

I was talking about money and sport in the football transfers thread.

Cardiff had player on loan, he was due to sign full terms and become ours when at the last minute another club came in and doubled his wages.  He signed for them.  Our fans ripped into him big time.  He's been at QPR since then (7/8 months approx) and is fucked off and wants to come here.  Our fans are loving the prospect of his return - Fickle or what?

These same fans would jump ship from their employers and move to a competitor for better wages and claim 'I have a family to feed' yet when your in sport its frowned upon.

I don't blame any player for sacking their country off (not the case this time) and going to the IPL instead of a winter tour somewhere.  Chris Gale did it and came to England late with the rest of the WI's who got thumped.  A lot of people had a go at Gale putting his greed first before playing for the country.  The people having a go were the elder ex England players, Gatting, Gower, Gooch etc.  They would of and they know it.

lol...

He was somewhat influential in the 2005 Ashes. That's about it. People overrate this guy so much. He's the Beckham of the England Cricket team.
