Building a computer and looking at both options.

Considering a single GTX so I can add another one day.....when I have the cash

But for about the same money - I can put 2 GT's in from the start.

Not sure how each option would stack up against the other performance wise.

I would say 2 7900gt's since i doubt u would want to sli another 7900gtx in the future... since the next card (g80) will be around twice as powerful

Two 7900GTs for the price of one GTX?! I think single GTs are 300 € by now, a single GTX is about 450-500€... Hm, take two GTs, will be a diffrence between 10-15% higher than a single GTX. For a sidenotice, SLI doesnt run propperly with every game.

Awesome - thanks.  Any idea when the next generation will be out?  I had no idea they were going to be out with something twice as powerful.....I might rethink the whole thing considering that and possibly throw in a couple lower end cards instead (like 6800 GT or something).

Nvidia G80 will not be released until november-december 06. I dont think those new cards will be twiche as powerfull as a G71-Chip. The diffrence between a "old" and a "new" generation was always max 20-25% (6800Ultra-7800GTX 256MB non oc)

http://www2.tomshardware.de/graphic/200 … update.gif

If you want to build a new system now, dont take two 6800GTs (NV43 aeach about 220-250 Bucks) because those are only 100 Bucks cheaper then two 7900GTS and dont have the new architecture.

i dont mean double the framerate... i mean like 2 6800 ultras in SLI has around the same framerate as 1 7800gtx... but i agree w/ u getting 2 7900gt's.

The G80 might be twice as powerful since there will be DX10 on it and more new technology on the card. BTW get a good a8n32-sli deluxe mobo since it has true dual 16X pci-e lanes

1x 7900gt and save for next gen, a gt is all you need atm, it plays everything you need it to fine.....and the price is great for performance, performs as well as a 256mb 7800gtx

my oldest system is a commodore C64 which one still works, and I guess my parents have an old Atari console anywhere at home?!

I havent mentioned I´m building a QUAD-SLI System probably next month, have I?

- AMD Athlon 64 FX 60 (not shure about this, I think I´ll take my X2 4800+)
- 2x NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7900GX2 (4x 7900GTX Chips) Quad SLI (confirmed for May 16)
- ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe (already at home)

omfg... donate ur 3rd system to chuy he would love u. but dont get quad SLI yet... wait until G80 THEN quad sli since it would be more worth it since there would be dual core GPU's by then

nice looking systems.  I would recommend getting dual gts, as it would (almost positively) outperform the 7900gtx.

A single 7900GT should hold just about anyone until we need DX10 and Shader Model 4.0. Just my two cents.

Asingle 7900gt it is!   Actually had a very difficult time finding one....but, found a couple at Tiger Direct (New Egg had nothing).....and just tried it for the first time last night.  Cranked it up to highest resolution and it was smooth as silk....I figure I can add another if needed when 2142 comes out - and by then they will be $150 or less!  thanks guys.
