Yes, Obama "saved" GM, but let us not forget the main reason GM needed to be "saved". The government has been micromanaging American auto manufacturers for so long, I imagine most of us saw this coming.
1) unions
2) bad management
It's not the government's fault that unions grabbed so much power within these companies. It's not the government's fault that executives focused on higher profit per vehicle rather than selling larger volumes of small economical cars.
For obvious reasons, or have you already forgotten his jetgate?ATG wrote:

I'm just saying...I was addressing things AR said that were obviously problomatic.
I have said before, the ceo's are not going to do one thing more than they are mandated to do. If it were not for government intervention they would gold plate their private jets with bailout money.
Fuck 'em right in the keester with a splintered shovel handle I say.

Rattner Steps Down as Car Czar
Monday, July 13, 2009
By Martin Crutsinger, Associated Press
Washington (AP) - Steven Rattner, head of the Obama administration's auto task force, is leaving that post and will be replaced by former steelworkers official Ron Bloom.
The administration said Monday that Rattner decided to return to private life and his family in New York City.
Rattner won praise for the job he did managing the massive restructuring of General Motors and Chrysler. But his government service came under a cloud with an investigation of an influence peddling scandal back in New York.
Authorities have said that Rattner, an investment banker, was unlikely to face charges in the investigation which involved a giant state pension fund that provides retirement benefits for more than 1 million government employees.
In a statement, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner praised Rattner's work on the auto industry overhaul.
"We are extremely grateful to Steve for his efforts in helping strengthen GM and Chrysler, recapitalize GMAC and support the American auto industry," Geithner said. "I hope that he takes another opportunity to bring his unique skills to government service in the future."
Rattner will be replaced by Bloom. He assumes leadership of the task force's activities as the government transitions from day-to-day restructuring to "protecting the substantial investment the American taxpayers have made in GM, Chrysler and GMAC," Geithner said.

Bailing out small business is a really bad idea -- even worse than bailing out corporations.usmarine wrote:

However, we really should cut small businesses more breaks in taxation.
Corporations should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than small businesses, but in reality, the opposite is true.
And small businesses are more likely to NOT pay back the money.

I have reconsidered. I am going to take every gaddamned tax dollar I can get.
I am going to apply for sba loans, food stamps, mortgage assistance and anything else I can think of.
Why shouldn't I? I have paid massive amounts of money in and I believe we are all screwed anyway. Why should I be a stick in the mud?
I am going to get all I can and pay nothing back. Fuck it, I am over being a stone in the river.
