The first new MRAPs, to be built by Oshkosh Corp., will reach Afghanistan in October, said Marine Brig. Gen. Michael Brogan, the officer in charge of the program. By March, the Pentagon plans to buy 5,244 MRAPs. Initially, all of the new trucks will be flown to Afghanistan to speed them to troops in combat. It costs $1.4 million to buy, ship and service each truck for one year, significantly more than the cost of a Humvee, which costs less than $200,000
