My PC's monitor is on all day, and I have a TV that's usually on for an hour or two before I go to sleep, so they'll both pop bang and crack dozens of times after I turn them off. It interrupts me just as I'm falling asleep all the time, very annoying

Indeed, I get it with the pipes and lights. TV does it as well. I also have birds living under the tiles on the roof so get a lot of random noises from those.

Strangest thing that's happened to me was a bright flash at the back of my room and a white ball when it happened. No idea what it was, but there's sometimes a buildup or static in the air, so I'm guessing it was that.

It's in your head. I will occasionally do this as well. You hear these noises so often that your mind expects them to be happening to the point where you can almost hear it happening.

Either that or its someone in another room youre hearing.

English houses are so noisy, it annoys me. I <3 Dutch houses that are thrown together out of a few fuck-off-massive slabs of concrete.

When you go to sleep start any machine, like a cloth dryer, that has a continuous sound.  This use to put me to sleep in no time and could cover the other cracking / popping sounds.

Or you're just plain crazy.
or Schizophrenia is just around the corner!

lol

Any houses are having movement, a nails pops out of its place, thermal events (Contraction or expansion of materials) maybe the causes amongst others.

Really now? I'll tell you I'm being haunted by more ghosts from the past than is comfortable =/

They're all girls by the way, but that's a whole other story though. Might be a solution for the OP's problem though. Just tell yourself it's the ghost of some sassy girl XD

Half dreaming actually, you are awake to some extend but dream the noises. Nothing unusual if you'd ask me.

You are just dreaming that you are in bed trying to get sleep.

In reality you are still posting in bf2s, and the keyboard and mouse sounds you hear are you using your pc, your brains just went to bed before you.

A fan can work well too, and if it's hot where you live, it can help cool off the room as well.

You know that is the most fucked up dream. I've had it twice. I'm asleep and dreaming and the dream is about that I can't get sleep. I hate it. I've been so damn tired the next day.

Yeah its damn confusing when you are dreaming while dreaming. YOu wake up and its like you are awake for real, but some weird shit happens. Then in the end you wake up for real confused to hell about waht happened.

Yeah, I do sleep with two fans usually.  One isn't noisy enough and the other isn't close enough to my head.

Ended up sleeping in the living room next to my room and slept like a rock, then woke up at 6:30 and went back to my bed which has never felt so comfy and slept there till 7:30 when I had to go to work.  I still heard a noise but I just ignored it because the bed was ssooooooo comfy.

I just go a little insane at night

And btw the doorknob to my room also broke, which means I had to tear down the door.  Makes porn impossible I would think.

The shit is happening again.

In rapid succession I heard the monitor crack as normal, mouse made a noise and then it sounded like the jingling of the doorknob again which isn't even in the area any more since is broke.

I tried to ignore it, but then it sounded like something double-tapped a key on my keyboard and I couldn't tolerate it any longer.  Sleeping in the living room again

Also: Do LCDs crack when they're off?  Because if they don't, then that's yet another incentive for me to upgrade from this CRT.  I've never heard one crack at work so I assume they don't.

I watch Ghost Hunters on TV, so here is what you need to do.

1. place a digital voice recorder in the area where there is the most activities.
2. tell the ghost to say somthing in the mic. the mic is there for the ghost to communicate.
3. ask several questions to the ghost.
4. let the digital voice recorder run all night.
5. the next day play and listen.
6. if there is something on tape, time to GTFO

I tried that once, except with Johnny Black. I still couldn't sleep, but I was a bit drunk.

Are you serious, bro? My 6 year old nephew watches that crap.

At OP, do you have an air conditioner that goes on and off intermittently? If so that could be causes contractions and expansions in your house. Or maybe your house is in labor.
