Often? I can't say I've ever seen anyone ruin their lives over pot, but I know people that smoke it far more than has got to be healthy.

I have seen in my day many people who had ruined themselves by choosing to smoke pot over work or school. I have seen people do highly irrational things while on the stuff. I have seen many people do irrational things for it. I have seen people jump from pot to other things. Personally I hate pot but my views on personal freedom stop me from calling for the death of all users.

Be careful, someone's gonna accuse you of lying or say something like "omg it wasn't the pot"

I don't smoke but I do support the decriminalization of marijuana simply because

1) prisons are overfilled with kids who were smoking underneath a tree eating cheetos while violent criminals run free
2) the war on drugs is a huge drain on the government's money
3) if people can get their pot from CVS or a supermarket they will. meaning less money goes to the cartels. meaning the cartels fail.

Bottom line is. People should be allowed to do what ever the fuck they want in their own home. As long as it does not infringe upon anyone Else's happiness or health.

I have cut way back on my consumption over the last 6months, getting tired off it now. But I managed to set up a successful business raise a balanced child, get a good woman and build my own house. All while smoke buckets of the shit.

Just because some idiots abuse it does not mean that the millions of sensible ppl should be denied it. Some idiot killed someone who pissed them off in WOW. Should we ban it? Someone drunk drives over a young child and his mother, should we ban booze? It goes on and on..........

People will be idiots, pot or no pot. The biggest idiots of all are those who blame everything they can, but themselves for being a fucking idiot in the first place.

Gg jahmanred for not reading the last sentence. I don't like it. I don't do it. But because of the circumstances you posed and my own views on personal freedom. I will not call for a total ban of it.

MYTH: There are no long-term consequences to marijuana use.
FACT: Research shows that kids who smoke marijuana engage in risky behavior that can jeopardize their futures, like having sex, getting in trouble with the law, or losing scholarship money. Marijuana can also hurt academic achievement and puts kids at risk for depression and anxiety.
guis, don't smoke marijuana. it will jeopardize your future of having sex https://forum.zomgstuff.net/images/smilies/facepalm.gif

I have seen people mess there lives up from pot.  My sister and her husband for example. My sister's lungs collapsed and she didn't smoke cigarettes so I believe that pot smoking can affect the body in harmful ways. Both my nieces born of my sister had birth defects and birth defects do not run in our family. She smoked full time during both her pregnancies. I believe it was a major factor in those birth defects.  I also saw how careless they became over the years in their use and there attitudes. It eventually ended up helping ruin their marriage because one (my sister) wanted to get clean and sober and he didn't. He chose to continue and that ended up one of the factors that ended the marriage.

I know that it can be said about almost anything taken in excess, maybe it should be treated like alcohol. Legal to use but don't drive under the influence or have it exposed publicly or laws similar to alcohol. I have seen people mess up their lives with alcohol, with pot, with prescription drugs, with adultery, with video game addiction, so I understand both sides of the argument.

I will say that people who claim that pot is not harmful or that it is okay as long as you are at home miss some of the points. Do it at home...hopefully you are a single adult and not doing it while you are pregnant, or in front of your children or stoned while your high school kids come home from school...then you are affecting people even in your own home. I believe it is harmful, can be addictive and can be abused and people who use it should have a huge responsibility of the consequences they bring home, especially if you are raising children. Just because you do it at home, doesn't mean no one else will be harmed.

Again, I am not against the use of pot and maybe it should be regulated like alcohol but please don't blow smoke up my ass and say that it isn't harmful physically, mentally, etc. because it is and can be just like any other drug out there. I have seen the effects first hand and nobody can tell me different. By the way, I am 39 and have probably been on this earth more than most here and have seen and experienced more than most, take my word for what it is worth.

A little personal responsibility goes a long way, unfortunately those who want to ban everything pick up on some morons lame excuse for bad behavior.

This guys an alcoholic = prohibition
This guy is a gaming addict = ban casinos
This guy smoked marijuania a decided drive his car = ban marijuana
This guy put on a party pack (beer, marijuana and cocaine) and then killed a family while driving 100mph = mandatory intoxication check points
That guy flipped his car going 70 mph = set speed limit to 55.
this list can go on and on, and I think the term is engineering society to the lowest common idiot, which means we all must suffer for the sins of the idiots among us unless we just say no.

my favorite on the list is this one
MYTH: You can't get addicted to marijuana.
FACT: Don’t be fooled by popular beliefs. Kids can get hooked on pot. Research shows that marijuana use can lead to addiction. Each year, more kids enter treatment with a primary diagnosis of marijuana dependence than for all other illegal drugs combined.

Let me guess, those kids going for treatment wouldn't be because they go caught in the criminal justice system and had to submit to treatment after being forced to admit in court to having a problem with drugs in order to get more lenient treatment, now would it /sarcasm.

Biggest farce is the whole gateway drug myth.... marijuana may not be harmless but it causes pyshcological dependance and is a gateway to harder drugs.... = makes me feel like choking someone so maybe they should ban the gateway drug theory so no one gets hurt.

Some people just seem to get off on telling others what to do. If you are not hurting anyone else and acting responsibly then its should not be any one elses business. If some one acts stupidly then punish the stupidity not the wrongdoers lame excuse for the stupidity.

"ooooh look at me, look at me, look at me now.... I drank three Hard Lemonade and I feel like acting like a jackass and jumping off a roof and into a pool, oops I missed the pool and broke my legs.... dam look what that hard lemonade made me do...."

No law is going to protect people from their own stupidity.

Just say NO.... to stupidity

Kids are gonna partake in risky behavior regardless, and that seemed to be the main driving point of the article.

As always, things in moderation are fine, but all the time is a no-no. Regardless what drug or activity it is.

The topic is "Marijuana is harmful", can you prove that it is not harmful?

Where is your EVIDENCE?

And ... we are not talking about alcohol.

The biggest problem I have with that is that you can drink alcohol in the same room as me without affecting me, but if you smoke it does.  My residence at university this year reeked of weed the entire year and I hated it.  I really see no point in making it legal.

I'm at work, so don't have the time to write a lengthy reply, but heres another Myth/Fact combo for everyone.

MYTH: Using marijuana prevents you from being successful
FACT: Michael Phelps

The OP's post is full of fallacies and flaws.

How many millions in endorsements did Phelps lose again?

How many millions of people can do what Phelps did again?

Did Phelps smoke pot as part of his workout?

Great argument there.

Look at my next paragraph after the one quoted above....I totally agree with you. Some people in here claim if it is done in the privacy, behind their own doors that it is their business. I agree to a point, but if you have family then you do affect much more than yourself. I was lucky that I didn't have college room mates like yours. I'm on the fence on making it legal or not. Personally, I am against it but I can see both sides. Personally it has done so much damage to people I personally know that I would not make it legal but I am not in a position to do much about it except warn others of what could happen.

I wasnt arguing against you, I was just saying that that particular solution, which many people suggest, wouldnt work.
