You're more likely to crash in a rural area than in a city.ph1shman420 wrote:

* Car drivers and passengers are three times more likely to die on a rural road than a busy street.
* In 2006, more than 60 per cent of all deaths due to road accidents were in rural areas.
* The people most at risk on rural roads are young men, predominantly aged between 17 and 39.

Cities are all junctions, easy right-angled turns, slow(er) speeds and lots of stopping and starting. Sure, technically more 'accidents' occur in urban areas - by accidents I mean low-claim bumps, scratches and collisions. Car write-offs and fatal crashes are why insurance rates are high in rural areas: with poorly maintained roads, a more complex driving experience in general - lots of technical bends, unpredictable road surfaces, blind corners, uneven road camber etc. - and generally higher speeds, young drivers get wasted on these single-lane roads around here. I lost 3 good friends in a single accident a couple of years back. Another mate of mine flipped/rolled his car and wrote it off, going at a below-limit speed; he simply didn't know the road well enough and ended up taking a trip down a severe roadside drop and into some woodland/fields. How many friends of mine have been injured or have damaged/totalled their cars whilst being at Uni, or living in cities? None.ph1shman420 wrote:

bad drivers imo
Wow Wimbledon final was amazing.
just went to bk and the fuckers didnt have my super 7 incher. wtf
Yeah, well your opinion is informed by experiences driving in a country where almost every road is straight and built in the last ~100 years . Some of the English country roads, especially the country lanes, are absolutely fucking lethal. Not 'bad driving' when you're following the speed limits and drive cautiously... just general inexperience at handling a more challenging sort of drive. Whatever the reasons, anyway, insurance rates in accident-prone rural areas are sky high. The small-time local papers back home in Gloucestershire are always full of tragedy-stories about young drivers being killed on old, poorly-maintained roads. Perhaps some of the time it is their fault... doesn't stop the insurance companies from being scared shitless and jacking up the area-rates!ph1shman420 wrote:

No shit, there's a reason why America is a grid pattern everywhere with wide roads whereas most of the rest of the world isn't. Really shouldn't have to explain that one
Countryside driving is much more dangerous, especially since alot of the roads are national speed limit (70mph for the most part) which often does lead to crashes if people don't know what they're doing. Countryside driving here is much different. All sorts of crests, and hedgerows which block the view, and other stuff.
Driving in America is probably incredibly easy. Simple straight roads with massive wide lanes, except for the odd mountain roads which are on the edges of cliffs. What's the point of ever trying to explain, the only way you Americans would understand is if you actually lived somewhere else.

What a lame thing to say.. try driving in south Tampa. Especially as you get closer to the water (grid, my ass). Lanes are so narrow that at some points you have to pull your mirrors in to squeeze by, We have all types of roads skeetle.Mekstizzle wrote:
