LOL

"Republicans have a serious problem with young voters. In Florida, they overwhelmingly backed Barack Obama over John McCain and since the 2008 election, voters 18-29 have continued registering Democratic far more than Republican.

Because early voting habits tend to become long-term voting habits, the Florida GOP understands the gravity of the trend and is taking action. Its secret weapon for winning back the Twitter/Facebook generation? Brace yourself.

Panel discussions! And that's not all. Bruce Jenner, too!

On Aug. 22, the state Republican Party is hosting a "Drive the Discussion Exchange '09" youth conference in Orlando. Targeting Floridians 15 to 35, the conference promises panel discussions, "exciting speakers" and a voter registration drive.

The keynote speaker is Bruce Jenner, who won his Olympic gold medal before most of the event's target demographic was born. Jenner is surely better known to the future Republican leaders as the regular on Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

Well the positive thing is that they are trying.

But to win the youth vote, they really need to adjust policy.

GOP wont have to do a damn thing for the next election.  The Dems will take care of that all by themselves.

Doubt it. I cant see the GOP winning the next election. Especially as the economy slowly gets better. Do they have any Candidates that could even be considered as prez?

He also said it would take time before it got better ... it takes way longer to make 3 million jobs that to get rid of them ...

And the economy is looking better for the US ...

True, but the climb is slowing down ... if the businesses didn't lay off a few workers they would prolly have gone bankrupt leaving even more people without a job ...

If GOP wants to attract youngsters they should makes work a requirment at age 10. Then maybe they will know how fucking annoying it is to have half your salary taken away for programs you don't support.

Good idea. If you don't like how life is, you should just bend over and take it.

Would voting GOP actually change your income at all? Either way, bills have to be paid somehow, whether it comes out of the deficit or taxes at some point in the future someone is going to have to foot the bill.

Mostly OT,

The problem with legalising marijuana is conservatives.  And I mean even moderate conservatives.

Basically, politicians use it as a vote-grabber - they know nobody will push for MJ if they want to be in parliament.  Why?  Cons will NEVER vote for a lib purely because they're a lib, but libs will vote for a con if they believe that what the con is saying makes sense - libs are more open minded, and more open to reason.

Ergo, given a 50/50 split of libs vs cons, legal MJ will require a 67/33 split of libs/cons before it can so much as be discussed in hushed tones.

Shit, but true.  If you hate MJ, you hate freedom.

Well, according to some people on this forum, once you turn 18, your political views will quickly take a turn for the right.

So they shouldn't be worried.

Even though Obama won the 31-44 age group by like 9 percentage points..

Do any measure of research on the political leanings of US uni and you'll find it overwhelmingly liberal.

That's because liberals are educated and attend university, whereas conservatives attend Bible Camp to learn about why God stuck dinosaurs in the ground to test our faith.

Heh.

The thing is, the ultra right, ultra religious conservatives are a minority. Yet, the GOP panders to them (see: Palin).

I'd say the GOP would have had a VERY good chance if they'd picked a decent VP.
