But seriously, we have to invest in Mexico to help stabalize it. The better Mexicio is the lower number of illegals will want to come to the United States.
A wall would deter. Troops with a 'virtual fence' with UAVs, sensors, etc., would help deter illegals and drug traffic.
But really if we just do the following we could curtail illegals alot:
- I-9 forms within 90 days (lets employers know who has a valid social security number; they must fire them or face $10,000 fine/month).
- Illegals that are pulled over for a traffic ticket or arrested MUST be detained and transferred over to the Border Patrol. A database of illegals will be kept with biometric information. First offense, $500 and after that 6 months in jail and $5,000 fine)
- with that 'insta-check' system check people coming into/out of the United States, cross check with Terrorist Watch List
- Improve background checks of tourist visas (many people come here and overstay their visa), so increase the fines to $500 for failing to leave - give a 1 or 2 month grace period, and then if they still don't leave then put a warrant for their arrest with a $5,000 fine
That's just some ideas. Problem is Democrats want to make the illegals citizens because they tend to vote Democrat.
Now the question is should I, as a Hispanic, run for office...that's what Republicans need, a conservative minority on the ticket!

Without a U.S. presence in Afghanistan, Pakistan would be left to fight the Taliban almost entirely on its own, and as we've seen, they aren't very good at it.
I agree with the pulling from abroad idea. Why the fuck are we worrying about what goes on thousands of miles away from us when there are plenty of problems on our home turf to deal with.

Mostly, those troops overseas are dealing with problems "over there" so we don't have to deal with those problems over here. Do you really think the military would be the answer to illegal immegration? Because that would mean minefields, artillery strikes, air assaults to take out large groups of illegals crossing... I am not opposed to that, mind you. I just wondered if that was what you had in mind.
The military is geared to kill people and break things. Sure, you can do the occasional humanitarian action, or try a police action, but that is operating outside the role they (the military as a whole) is designed for. If you just want to use them to capture the illegals and send them back, that is a gross misuse of military personnel and training, and a waste of the money invested in military equipment and training. Be better just beef up the border patrol.
How about about a dozen UAVs, a couple AC-130 Specter gunships for air support, and a series of unmanned towers with remote operated sniper rifle and mahine gun? Use the sniper rifle for single targets out to a kilometer or so, and MGs to handle groups of crossers or people trying to take down a tower. Build a tower every km or so, let 1 soldier in a nice cooled control bunker have control of 10 towers. Occasional patrols of 8 soldiers in 2 HMMWVs covering the area on patrol. small firebase (1 company) every 100km or so. A single battalion of infantry could almost cover 1000 km of border. If you make it a single full brigade sized combined arms team, you could cover the entire border, including artillery support. Not sure if you would need tanks, but couldn't hurt.

The world is a very different place today than it was back then. We can't live the same way today as we did then.
We could also make immigration a much faster/efficient process. It took me, a law-abiding legal alien to this country of 14 years about 1.5 years to get my green card. Imagine how long it takes for people from countries like Mexico and El Salvador to get a simple visa.
