News of Jackson's death was broken by TMZ.com, a Los Angeles-based celebrity news website. Jackson was pronounced dead at 2.26pm, and 18 minutes later at 2.44pm, the website posted: "Michael Jackson passed away today at the age of 50."[5]

The news spread quickly online, causing websites to crash and slow down from user overload. Google believed the millions of people searching "Michael Jackson" meant it was under attack from hackers, and blocked them. Twitter reported a crash, as did Wikipedia, at 3:15 PDT.[14] AIM, an instant messaging service operated by AOL, collapsed for 40 minutes. AOL called it a "seminal moment in Internet history," adding, "We've never seen anything like it in terms of scope or depth."[10]
Sweet Jesus. I guess this proves it really was as shocking as it was made out to be.

Why aren't these two labelled the same? Unless Lilly Allen isn't at Glastonbury and is actually preforming elsewhere in Somerset.
They, the images, were found at different sites. I simply copied/pasted the captions.

Nice job comparing him against albums that have been out over 10 years longer than his music.. not too mention his generation isn't exactly running out to the store and "buying albums". He did have the top selling album of all time (thriller). Album sales all together have been down for the last decade. Face it, your parent's were held hostage.

Also, I sure do as fuck remember a shit storm of fans losing their mind everytime one of those queerbomb beatle fuckers died.

Rar rar rar, make more excuses. Ohh no... 10 years longer over the space of 50 really makes such a huge fucking difference. Beatles songs today still get used in movies, TV shows, advertising are still regularly played on the radio, where as Michael Jackson hardly gets a mention, an occasional song here and there and then hes forgotten like yesterdays trash. He had one successful album, an extremely successful album to be fair but his songs are now forgotten relics of the past.

Yesterday I asked myself, where is Jesse Jackson?  I guess it took him an extra day to arrive.  Sit back and enjoy act two.

No it says nothing. You can't tell me you're generally surprised that Michael Jackson was more popular than all the other randoms you guys posted from time to time, that would be quite naive

So let me get this straight. His generation aren't buying music, but a generation 10 years even older than that are?

Album sales alone shouldn't be used to gauge somebodies skill as an artist. There are a huge amount of factors that go into how well an album sales.

I'd consider the fact that the main factor is whether the music is good or not - and thus how good the artist is.

Well you have to consider a few things. Modern albums don't sell too well because of the internet and how easy it is to download them. The economy is also shit right now for most people. Now back when Thriller came out the economy wasn't so weak, and P2P and torrents didn't exist. Also the price of albums were cheaper. Now CD have to compete with Ipods, Zunes, Blackberrys etc. Given all these factors Cd sales shouldn't be the number one thing to look at when you define somebodies worth in the music world. The same thing with authors some of the best authors who created some of the greatest work were overlooked during their lifetime and only after sometimes many years were their works truly appreciated for it's contribution and quality.

wat.

Right so years the album has actually been available means nothing.. lol.. Michael Jackson the artist didn't release an album until 1972. that's a 12 year difference.. the Beatles also released more albums. Despite your clever rar rar rar comment, things like music sharing (copied tapes) does have an impact..

Nice logic. But then it's no surprise since you missed the entire fucking point. You think there isn't going to be a buzz around his death? Hundreds of millions of people liked his music enough to spend their hard earned money on it. I know it's a difficult number to comprehend, but imagine the entirety of the Australian population times about 30. It doesn't really matter that another band (OF A DIFFERENT GENERATION) sold more. There is another generation that grew up listening to MJ. It was the soundtrack of their childhood. There hasn't been anything close to his popularity in my lifetime.

Forgotten thing of the past?.. if this were the case people wouldn't be whining about all the buzz around his death. No one would care. And it would not be covered. You're a victim of your own ill-fated logic.

He said he was worried that he was going to end up like Elvis. He was always comparing himself to Elvis, but there was something in his tone that made me think that he wanted to die, he was tired of life. He gave up. His voice and dance moves weren’t there any more. I think maybe he wanted to die rather than embarrass himself on stage.’

On June 21, Jackson told my contact that he wanted to die. He said that he didn’t have what it would take to perform any more because he had lost his voice and dance moves.

‘It’s not working out,’ Jackson said. ‘I’m better off dead. I don’t have anywhere left to turn. I’m done.’
