Hi to all m8s!

This problem is so widespread that I would like to create a database of our solution to CTD to help other people to solve it. I hope you will like it, my first post.

I had this problem too: after ~15-20 minutes of game, I think after 1.2 Patch I crashed to desktop (and sometimes I had also blue screens). I solved it changing my memory timings.

I have TCCD memory sticks, and these are now my stable timings:
2,5
7
3
3
2
7
14
3
NORMAL (drive strenght)
@ 268Mhz

With those I played about a week without problems.

I made a defrag yesterday, changing also the size of my paging file (setting it to 1536-1536 min.-max.) and after ~45 min. I had a crash to desktop... thinking that could be another possible cause, I resized it to 1024-1536 and played 2 houres without probs.

Solution Summary:
- problem: frequent CTDs\Blue Screens | solution: change memory timings
- problem: rare CTDs | solution: resize paging file

from you guys (always updating):
- problem:  frequent CRDs | solution (to make CTDs rarer): increase your RAM amount
...

So people, not it's your turn, explain your solution to your CTD problem (I think many causes can determinate it, many hardware and many linking hardware-software)!

yea CTD is really pain in ass, but when i bought 1gb DDRAM extra memory (now total 1,5gb) it still crashes to desktop but not often as before ..... good post punisher !

few other things people could try if they get CTD often.
1. re-optimise gfx settings(especially after changing gfx drivers) go into folder   My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache   & delete everything inside the cache folder but not the cache folder itself.

2. lower your gfx settings see if it crash's as often.
3.nvidia owners try turning off FASTWRITES in your bios (6600gt's suffer a lot with this enabled on older/cheaper mobo's as i had it myself on a cheap basic msi mobo with my bfg 6600gt oc apg)
4. if your mobo has 4 ddr slots & supports mem running in duel channel make sure that your mem sticks are identical make/latency/size & thier in the correct slots.
5.experiment with different gfx driver version, theres loads of modified driver/beta drivers tuned to help specific games run better or more stable.dont just go for the newest driver try some slightly older versions.
6.make sure your mobo's chipset/agp or pci-e/audio drivers are up to date.
7.try adaware & regmechanic to tidy up your file system.
8. heavy smokers clean ya pc out of that brown dusty crap thats building up in your pc case especially from sys/cpu/gfx card fans & from around your ram slots.

also if your getting random eratic pings make sure no apps like media player/winamp/antivirus/firewalls or windows are set to auto update themselves.

hope some of these tips help.

CTD usually don't give any error... (they just leave a memory dump in the folder /dmp/).

Anyways do you know how to fix my error?

my CTD was caused by that damned cd-key encryption mess. Simply, go here http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=8683

When I first bought the game, it always crashed after a few minutes, so after trying everything(!) I changed my BIOS memory settings from CAS 2.5 to 3.0 - even though I have CAS 2.5 RAM - and haven't crashed for months.

Am I just wishing bad luck on myself?!?!

Nope, seeing that I solved in almost the same way.

same here. i was crashing a lot when i set the system memory to CAS2.5 with 1T timing. then i turned the speed down to CAS3 with 2T and that solved the problem. but the underlying cause might be my power supply. i monitored the voltage in the BIOS before and after crashing and all the rails (3v, 5v, 12v) would take a dip when system memory is being stressed. might also be my motherboard. heck, it could be a lot of things but for now the slower memory clock fixed the crashes.

interesting, for the most parts the CTD have been at times that haven't been that annoying, and nothing else happens to the system, so I just fire the game back up. I have a P4 3ghz oc'd to 3.4ghz but she's Prime95 and FAH stable. it's using a divider with 1GB in DC of Sammy PC3200 at a CAS of 2.5, I guess I could try that CAS of 3, but wow, that's gotta be annoying.  <_<  btw, if I add another GB of RAM, should I drop my rig to 2T? I understand that Intel's do fine at 1T with all 4 dimms populated (it's on an older 865PE mobo)?
