The last time the shuttle landed it sounded like two bowling balls being dropped in the apartment up stairs.
They are loud all the time so I am glad that before we complained I went on line and looked up a live NASA feed.

Man i wish I lived near an Air Force Base (that wasn't stupid Bolling AFB or Andrews AFB) so I could see & hear this shit on a regular basis. The most exciting things I see are Presidential helicopters.

They aren't on a regular basis. I hear more from the shuttle than anything else. .. course the a-10's fly low enough to make it sound like someone is using an electric saw in my attic.

It happened.. again location isn't necessarily dependent upon how close you are.

Note that it is very dependent upon angle. Sometimes further is better. @ 90 miles away you could easily here them given the right trajectory and atmospheric conditions.

Ironically they were testing ways to reduce the intensity of sonic booms.

I used to live at Holloman AFB in New Mexico and we had all kinds of shit flying by. Didn't live too far from the White Sands bombing range, either. They launched ICBMs from that base, had all kinds of fighters, the F-117 was based there. Great fucking place to live. Heard and saw all kinds of shit. Got to one point, though, where you just stopped noticing it. I knew something flew by because people not used to it would jump. Hell, I can remember being in school and the teacher would talk through whatever loud noise a low-flying plane was making and no one cared or noticed because we were all used to it. Fuck I miss living on bases ...

Used to live near Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA, too. Had quite a few fighters taking off from there. I remember when my girlfriend was visiting us one time from Austria, I was at work for a few hours and a plane flew by right near the house and a boom went off. Scared the shit out of her because the entire house shook. I got home and she said she started to panic, she thought a bomb went off, hahahaha.

Come on keep up like I said we're not all hicks living in a testing range (except Kmarion, HE invited the USAF, not the other way round)
Tampa is not exactly hickville...
