'Condom Cards' Given to Youth to Combat Teen Pregnancy

Boys as young as 12 are to be issued with condom "credit cards" allowing them to pick up free contraception at football grounds, barber’s shops and scout huts.

Condoms will be distributed at places where boys congregate, to spare them the embarrassment of visiting sexual health clinics or GPs’ surgeries or facing a shop assistant at a pharmacist's counter.

They will be able to collect the condoms by showing a plastic card issued to them after they have attended a safe-sex lesson, according to new government guidance. Boys who take advantage of the scheme will not have to give their names or answer questions about their sex lives.

The scheme is intended to cut teenage pregnancies and persuade boys to take greater responsibility for contraception.

However, critics believe it will encourage children to be sexually active from a younger age. Britain has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe and the government has failed in its pledge to halve rates of pregnancy in girls under the age of 18.

12 is just ridiculous. Weigh up how many kids at that age actually consider having sex with how many kids would be unnecessarily sensitised to it. Not to mention the room for abuse with parents getting their 12 year olds to pick up free condoms for them. Talk about mental scarring.

Fuck me it miight actually be worth getting the bus to lancaster for that. *Number 42 bus has a stop at the end of my road near enough,* that is the one that goes from lancaster to blackpool right? if not then its certainly not worth it.

The kids are screwing each other anyway, if it leads to an increase in the amount of underage kids being sexually active at least they will be safe about it.

I'm glad to see we're in agreement that 12 is far too young to start being sexually active. Thing is 12 is generally the age where kids are given the sex ed lessons and as such it's generally the age they're going to consider trying it out as well. Educating them about sex and providing condoms at the same time seems perfectly logical.

Most of them are probably just going to use them as balloons though.

That's per 1000 women 15-19. As far as I understand Germany is a country that's pretty open with sex and protection, I certainly know in England sex education basically consists of "Don't do it until you're older". Also, the rate of birth/abortion shows that more birth rates in Germany are premeditated and not from one night stands.
