Well I just got Assassin's Creed from steam, $10 was hardly a price for such a beautiful game. As others said, it's a bit repetitive, but control is freakin' sweet.

Anyone for a wishlist of new/fixed features for AC 2?

Mine:

- Improved dialogue, variance. "Thank you for saving me from these soldiers. I will never forget it!" x400 drove me a bit nuts. Also, getting to a viewpoint and having the same damn camera spin the same way with the same music got a bit annoying.

- More toys. Blade, throwing knives, hidden blade. Meh. I mean I know you're an assassin, how about a poison needle? Anything different would be cool.

- Much more variance in "things to do". Eavesdrop, pickpocket, see informant. Zzzz. How about "steal this guy's bread" or "impersonate guard" or some other cool things. Also, perhaps build up things to do on the way there. Right now it's viewpoint - run around - complete objective. "Spy on xyz" without being seen would be cool.

- I know this isn't an MMO, but items? Truth serum. Some concoction to knock people out. More blades. Bigger blades. Smaller blades. Two blades. Perhaps some cosmetic items found by alternative objectives. Freedom of choice is always good.

I just got May's Game Informer in the mail, the day before May ends, go figure. There's an 8 page article about the game. I don't have time to read it all now but I did read the section titled "A change in the game." It starts with the developers surveying gamers and accepting the fact that it's repetitive so it's time for a change. Some stupid missions were taken out like pickpocketing and eavesdropping. Instead of going back and forth between the assassin's bureau and finally killing people, you can apparently go through the city in whatever way you want. All it mentions is, "There's no preset structure."

It says 200+ missions with 16 unique mission types. They also say it's going to feel more like GTA where even though a lot of the mission types are similar, none of them truly feel the same. Some with flow straight into others. Some examples they mention are chasing people trying to escape the city, following a certain person through a crowded marketplace, or basically escorting somebody out of the city while people are trying to kill him/her. One of the other cool things is that now the collectibles do something. It's not just flags that you can find and they will actually give you permanent in-game features. It doesn't go deep in detail about it but I'm assuming some would be maybe jump farther/higher, run a little faster, stronger attacks, etc.

Nice to see he is just as shitty of a silent assassin as the last guy. It was impossible to make a stealth kill.

Only the important people though.

Even though a stealth kill would have been nice just to dodge the enormous number of guards that followed.

No, fighting 15 guards at once with your shortblade was epic!

It's not that the fights weren't sometimes fun, but the game can hardly be called an assassin game when you can't kill a single target without alerting all of his guards.

Needs more stealth.

And stalking your target while gaining information about where and when to strike was always useless. You'd never kill your target and make it away without having to go through 3 mins of dialogue and then a chase or fight with his guards.

The first one was short from being an epic game in a few game play areas.

Personally I think you should be able to follow two different paths. A high profile path and a low profile each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

As a high profile assassin you try and make your kills as public as possible and usually ends up with dealing with a lot of guards, may make you a stronger fighter and get street rep faster, can use heavier weapons for more damage, but guards recognise you easier.

Low profile assassins can stalk until they are alone or where their deed will have as little impact as possible. He will be able to walk around town easier, be more light-footed and faster. Being able to use smaller weapons with precision, but due to their animosity street rep will be slower to gain, which might make getting to better missions harder as the people offering have know idea what you have done.

Opens up the game a lot more I think.

Tru dat. I remember spending like 2 hours on one of the first targets, because I thought I made a mistake and attracted all his guards

But after that I thought it was the intention of the Assassins to kill somewhat in public, to send a message. You know like, "Watch out what you do with all that power of yours! There is always someone watching your actions."

and @blackout:
THAT.WAS.EPIC!!

the only thing that sucked about the last one was how easy it was.  once you mastered the timing with the counter and the hidden blade, everyone dies in one hit, even the last guy which everyone thought was so tough.  it made the game waaaaay to simple.

This shit just reminds me of The Merchant of Venice only with the sci-fi and Assassin's Creed (original) stuff intersposed on top.

Fuck me, Renaissance Europe was an awesome place and is an even awesomer setting for a game.

You're a master-fucking-assassin.

Killing everybody you meet in 1 hit = part of the character.

I don't think Assassin's Creed 2 will feature cross dressing or Jewish loan sharks though...

Meh.  I was surprised when I fought the last guy.  I thought counter wouldn't be enough, but it was pretty simple.

If the developers have any realistic sense then it actually will do...

The fact that the Venetian authorities allowed Jews to have their own ghettos (the original ghettos ye-eah!) and to practice the art of usery (money lending which was frowned upon in the Christian majority) is what built the city into a vibrant and rich mercantile hub. Cross-dressing and fancy costumes were all the rage during the classically-obsessed Renaissance too, don't you forget it. I want Shylocks and transvestites ahoy!
