- One killed, one injured in Arkansas recruiting center shooting
As much as it sickens me to say it, if he attacked military personnel only, then I would not qualify it as terrorism. Since he is is an american citizen, firing at military personel on American soil, it should just be murder. If they can find proof that his motivation was a jihad or in response to the 'war on terror,' Iraq, or Afghanastan, then perhaps treason, espionage, sabotage or some other really cool charge could be added.
I know it's racist but the guy's name kinda hints "crazy fanatical muslim" to me.imortal wrote:

The fact that an Islamofacist killed an American soldier won't get any play on the national news networks, except maybe Fox News.
What's going to get all the news is the abortion doctor who was killed instead.

Isn't it a case of murder? Or do we have thought police on patrol now?
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.

Not to sound callous or unfeeling, but the "Islamofacist kills American Soldier" headline has been played already. About 4300 times.Turquoise wrote:

Is what happened disgusting? Reprehensible? Deserving punishment? You best fucking believe it.
But is it shocking, late breaking news?
Compare that to the last time an abortion argument went nuclear.
It is shocking when this happens on our own soil.Protecus wrote:

I would hope that President Obama would be as mad against the 18-year-old soldier's death than that of the abortion doctor's death...but I've only read stories about Obama and the abortion doctor.

Yes, I know, and it sounds like he converted. But we can not assume it was religiously motivated, even as I suspect it was. Being muslim does not make a person automatically evil, and it appears to me this guy would be a sicko whatever he was calling God. Yes, I think it was a 'jihad-thing,' but unless there is some sort of evidence (at his residence, or in his correspondance to others) or he admits it during questioning or trial, it should be pursued as 'just' a murder.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

Yeah, it sucks. But it would be just, and might help dimish both automatic muslim support for their fanatic fringe elements as well as show the American public, the muslim community, and the world at large that this is not some sort of holy war (at least, on OUR part).
It's a horrible thing to have done (assuming he did it), but doesn't that make this act, by it's very definition, not terrorism as he appears to have specificaly targeted the military?Military officials initially believed the shooting was a random act, but Thomas said police believe the shooter acted alone "with the specific purpose of targeting military personnel."
Strange, the US finds nothing shocking in going abroad to kill people in their country. It is shocking when this happens on our own soil.
Whatever, the guy is a murderer and should go down for it.
Fuck Israel
damn mormons
Attacking the US military--shouldn't that be treason, as well?
He was probably unemployed, and figured this would be a good way to have a place to live, 3 squares a day, and an hour a day at the gym.
nah..he had good meals while in Yemen I reckon.Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:

The OP is about an American citizen killing American soldiers. You're talking about us killing foreign citizens. The two are entirely different.
Killing people in a country you've invaded isn't exactly shocking. Killing your own soldiers is shocking unless you live in Iraq, Afghanistan, or some other country in turmoil.
These. If he wasn't connected in any way with these guys, then it could safely be considered treason.imortal wrote:

Yeah, but this...
Whatever, the guy is a murderer and should go down for it.
Nevermind: that instead.

Since when is motive not one of the first questions we ask?Flecco wrote:

I wonder if this should be a 'hate crime'...I wonder if one of the soldiers was gay?
There is a precedent.. (lavat) http://www.gaywired.com/Article.cfm?ID=17718Harmor wrote:

In my heart, I would love to say yes. However, it sets a dangerous precedent. If you get in a fight and happen to kill a guy (say even in self defense, the guy was drunk), and he turns out to be a soldier on leave or something...RAIMIUS wrote:

I have to say it all comes down to motive. We just can not assume everybody who is muslim and commits a serious crime like this is a terrorist. If we did, we would be no better than a lot of the people in this forum accuse Lowing of being.
A senior U.S. official tells FOX News that more targets were found on the computer of a man charged in the fatal shooting at a military recruiting center in Arkansas — suggesting the accused gunman may have been part of a larger plot to attack military targets and may not have been acting alone.
Officers found maps to Jewish organizations, a Baptist church, a child care center, a post office and military recruiting centers in the southeastern U.S., New York and Philadelphia, according to a joint FBI-Homeland Security intelligence assessment obtained by The Associated Press.

[sarcasm]Maybe we should waterboard him just in case. Then we might get him to spill some info. Or we could just shoot him or something.[/sarcasm]

I guess the FBI have to figure out if the recruiting center was on federal property and if the recruit was property of Uncle Sam...sworn in before getting killed. Either one, it would be a federal case. The FBI has opened an investigation into the incident, said Steven Frazier, spokesman for the agency's Little Rock office. "Based on what we find, we will determine whether there is any federal jurisdiction to prosecute," he said
If we learned any thing from the World Trade Center it was these terrorists are persistent. At first, they failed to bring the WTC with a truck bomb in 1993 but it did not suade them to stop, and don't kid yourself that these guys will stop. The govt. and local law enforcement can't protect all possible "soft-targets" in the U.S. It is an unfortunate but we will have to deal with this kind of crap for who knows how long.
