Getting graphics to high?

was thinking of getting an xbox 360, then realised i had a perfectly good pc that just needs updating (probly better graphics too?) i just dont know what to update!
ive only got 512 ram and 128 graphics, whats most important? or do i need a 256mb card and another gig of ram? if i do - has any1 got any idea for the card ? not too expensive, i just saw the price of the 7900gt and almost fell off my seat, i could get a car for that....
any help appreciated

7900gt is a very bang for the buck card though, performs around the same as an overclocked 7800gtx and costs a lot less... also throw out that 512mb ram and get 2gb is the most recomended

think i will get another gig asap, but that card still looks damn expensive.. would an nvidia geforce 6600 512mb get me up to high do you think? cos thats 3 times cheaper! they just all look the same to me

the amount of video ram doesnt matter that much, but get the 6600gt coz its a lot better... but imo u should get a 7900gt (300usd) since its got a high performance/price ratio

i think u need some pc know how,

this guy prob has AGP, so u needa think about new motherboard, cpu, and ram, etc etc to PCI-E

ive got a pci-e, a p4 3ghz 1mb fsb, i just dont know a thing about graphics cards.. i cant tell the difference.. i know i need to upgrade my ram too though im gonna buy 2 sticks of 1024. i think im settled on getting the x800 xt now aswell. only problem is i hear i may well need to get a new psu aswell cos ive only got 305w.. we'll see?........

yes get a new psu, a decent 450W, get the 7900gt as i said its more bang for the buck big time

Give up!

if you want a decent card in that family Vanilla 7800GTs are excellent choices since there apparently "Future proof" I got a AGP 7800GS and its great and I didnt pay much for it

Until then I had an X800 Pro and it was also great
if your settled on an X800 Then its a solid choice so stick with it.

And ignore all these people recomending what they just saw in the latest Edition of PC-User magazine
